My HF greenhouse has been up now for 10+ years. Sadly the second season it was up we had VERY high winds that twisted and dropped it. Took a LOAD of mods to get it back up and stable. Lots of wood screwed on and tposts in the corners. We also had to rebuild the entire door area! We are getting ready to build a bigger one and the parts from the old will be recycled into my new one!
@gratiasgarden2 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and your comment! Yes, the door is by far the worst part about it. I’m glad to hear you are reusing some of the parts. I do know that at some point, the hubs is going to have to rebuild but I hope to use the frame. Did you have it on a foundation? Ours is screwed into the concrete.
@CaravanFarms2 ай бұрын
@@gratiasgarden We used the one it came with.... and used screw in tie downs to bolt it to. The plan now is not going to be flimsy and will have metal and foam for the first 40 inches of the walls. Then we have some 18 inch x 48 windows we picked up to go above that.... then new or reused panels of the twin wall but 2 layers and one will be the plastic/fabric pulled tight. Frame will be treated wood that will be dipped in a coat of waterproofer to double the protection. The first 8 feet of the front will have a solid roof then 12 feet of removable roof and then 4 feet of fixed. The plan we have drawn is to have 4 panels that will come off so I can take them off during good weather and put them on if hard freezes are coming. MOST of my growing is citrus which is now in VERY large pots. The older we get the harder it is to move these so being able to have them in place and NOT move them will help us and them. I also have other tropicals and such. The 8 foot area will be for growing racks and things that do not need rainwater falling... May have a shade house area on one side for my orchids. As for the doors we took them off and worked on them to make them swing open using piano hinges..... they have held up very well to hurricane winds... the biggest issue with the whole thing was the panel clips did not hold in even moderate winds... we used washers and screws to hold them on after having to chase them through the pastures!
@CaravanFarms2 ай бұрын
And the whole thing will be 12X24. I hope this is going to be large enough<G>

I use to make soap many many years ago before I started KZfaq, and would sell at farmers markets between 2005-20015 but have considered doing it again as my family loved it.

My son & husband bought me this greenhouse from Harbor Freight years ago. We also had it attached to concrete. We are in a rural area with open spaces. Unfortunately, I never even got a chance to use it. A storm (probably straight line winds) came through. 95% of the panels were in the field and the aluminum was bent. The frame is still there and was thinking about trying to attach plastic to it somehow and straighten out the peak which is all bent. We since have gotten a Yoder greenhouse, but I would still like to use the Harbor Freight one for seed starting or protecting certain plants if possible.

WD-40. I hate all sliding doors
@gratiasgarden3 ай бұрын
Oh man, bummer! We have had some pretty good winds in my area. Did you add self tapping screws to the frame where you attached the panels? That may have been the reason ours hasn’t blown to pieces yet. If you think the frame is still good and you want to use it, I say go for it. That is my plan, replace the panels with the plastic corrugated one.

We used grease a few years ago but the rollers are missing so that is the issue. I agree, sliding doors suck!

Hi! I noticed that your tomato seedlings are much larger than mine! I didn't use a heat mat but I did keep them inside. This is my first year growing tomatoes and I have a lot of seedlings sprouting out of very little soil. Is it okay if I transplant them before they develop any true leaves?
@gratiasgarden4 ай бұрын
I would say yes if it means they will have more soil. I am no expert and garden as I see fit (if that makes sense). Many of the seedling that I have transplanted only have the first set of leaves. If you do up pot, just make sure the little plant doesn’t get buried under the dirt. Please let me know if you choose to do it and how it works out. You can also just try a few and give them a few days to see how do and if they thrive, do the rest. Good luck ❤️
