Good music is good at all times. Unfortunatelly, in the recent times, the " bad " music has reached very high levels. Music by meter or Rap music, cannot hear it, I confess.

I took care of Mother for the last three years of her life. She had advanced Alzheimer's and I just recently lost her. I ordered a bunch of big band CDs because that was the music she loved. Whenever she became agitated, I would put on her music and it would instantly calm her. Before she became nonverbal, she would close her eyes and say something like, "oh, I used to dance to this!" Each time "String of Pearls" came on, she would smile and say, "I love this! The first time I ever laid eyes on your Daddy, that was playing!" I am so glad that I bought those CDs! I think they should have music in every nursing home. I am proud that Mother got her wish to die at home. It was such hard work but so very worth it! I miss her terribly.

I am 93 years old and I remember listening and dancing to all this great music. Once the war ended everything got better and then we really started to enjoy ourselves. Great memories.

Ironic that Vegas was seen as a classy resort when the NYC Mob still ran it. But when the respectable leisure conglomerates took control, it turned into the modern-day inferno. Bugsy Siegel was a Medici of taste in comparison.

I was born in the forties but grew up on Rock and Roll of the fifties. Sometimes I'd tell my mother that's a new song and she'd say "No, that's just a remake of an old one from years gone by." My favorite of the forties has to be the great Glenn Miller orchestra's "In the Mood".

This. This is music. Real voice, real instruments... Not synthetic. Amazing. My momma raised me on several generations of music during her times growing up, and I too have shared them with my kiddos. I believe having a vast musical repertoire increases intelligence... Just a theory. 😊

Does this ever bring back some great memories. I am 93 and I feel that I am a very lucky guy. Of course we had the depression, polio, and the War, but at the same time we were surrounded by good honest concerning people. Then we hit the 50,s and then life began. I really miss those days.

POV 1944 you are back home after deployment, standing on the alley during your cigarette break, holding a cup of joe with your one remaining hand, thinking of your brothers in arms, of the brutality you just witnessed. You are thinking, hoping that your children and their children cherish what you gave up so much to defend. Hoping that they won't allow their universities to become hives of mindless addicts of social approval and of support for communists and savage terrorists. Hoping that they won't allow pathological liars and narcissists who befriend dictators to sneak into our government and undermine what has taken so much to build. Hoping that the leaders they elect invest in education and in paying teachers well, so their children in turn elect leaders who rely on reason and science to understand issues and propose solutions. Hoping that they understand that the blood of democracy, which is capitalism, is carried out with the full awareness that resources are finite. Hoping that minorities are always held accountable for their actions. Hoping that law-abiding immigrants are allowed to stay, and those committing crimes and trying to devolve your country into the 3rd world are promptly kicked out. Hoping that the country you sacrificed so much for enables billionaire-making innovation, while at the same time making sure they pay their fair share of taxes so your children won't have to pay even more to privatized health "care" vampires and parasites. Hoping that the military industrial complex is never allowed to fund politicians who invent excuses for wars that ultimately end up benefiting death-cult fundamentalists around the globe. Hoping to never forget your mortally wounded comrade who gave himself up to blow up that panzer with the crew's last sticky bomb. Hoping to forget.

This is the music my folks listened to. I was born in 1945. They had a lot of 78's like Frank Sinatra, Gene Krupa, Tommy Dorsey, Nat King Cole, Patti Page, Perry Como, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Bing Crosby. I have most of that collection today. Thank God they loved music.
