Great to see my old friend and Liberation Dancer colleague, Keita, along with so many other familiar and dear faces. So much unwritten history here. Dale, you've got your work cut out! My father, Lance Hayward, briefly mentioned here, and his cousin, Robert, had a music studio above what is now a clothing store on Court Street, where he taught piano and voice and where the plays performed at Opera House, were written and rehearsed. It was also where the Hayward and Hayward Chorale rehearsed. They made "unsung" history by being the first troupe to do a North American performing tour in the 1940s, to great Canadian acclaim, per newspaper articles from that time. Thank you for this documentary. It brought back many fond memories.

Great job. So happy you produced this. So important to tell our stories in this climate where racist conservatives want to whitewash our history. We need to tell our stories over and over again. Thank you.

Dr. Harris sounds like a great Bermudian! I'd love to hear him talk more about his career. I'd bet it would be interesting to hear about his work in Papua New Guinea! Actually I'd love to hear him talk about that old motorcycle. 🙂

Bermuda is originally a dependency of the Dominion and Colony of Virginia because the islands had no indigenous people unlike mainland Virginia.

What about the Insolent Negro Act of 1623 which was the first British Colonial laws limiting blacks movement, access to weapons and no selling of tobacco without permission of their masters?

You can’t copyright an idea. Someone’s “likeness” can be guarded… that meaning their actual face. I think if you can patent or trademark an actual costume in it’s entirety you might have a leg to stand on… but there are many groups that use the same ideas in regards to costumes. For it to have a chance of working each group would have to have specific and unique style that differs from every other group… basically that horse is out of the barn in my opinion. All groups will have to start from scratch for it to make any sense
