Hope you pursued a real degree, and didn't waste time and money on a 🗑️diploma. Which seems to be par for many from NYU.

Your video randomly popped up in my feed, and I rarely like to listen to younger people's thoughts, mostly because many of them live in skewed realities and their thinking processes are overly confident without enough holistic perspective. But I thought your way of explaining your understanding of the world feels like listening to my younger self. I'm 29, about to turn 30, and have thought a lot about what money actually is. I would argue that money doesn't have to be acquired by being the best at something, but on a deeper level, what role does society need, what is your expertise/interest, and how can you convert the value you create for society and turn it into a savable asset. Because you're right, there are a million ways to focus your energy to make money, but what path makes the most sense to you? In ancient history, our roles were well defined within the hunter and gatherer communities, and it would take a pack or village to survive. It wasn't about an individual's work, but more so the output that the village needed to make in order to survive. Now, we are living in a society which is running so efficiently while being so disconnected at the same time; we don't know where our food comes from, we don't know how things are made, or how things are sourced, mostly because our village is global and so many structures have been set up prior to you being born. Finding, discovering, or rationalizing your role within this current society, in my opinion, has become very abstract and very confusing for a new grad because a lot of things you haven't actually thought about, unless you have great mentors who thought about and teach you these systems, and you were proactively learning to improve society from an early age. The world today is a well-oiled machine. Your existence and current efforts have very little impact on what it produces tomorrow, next week, next year, and so on, and this is why I believe so many people are confused about what role to fit themselves in, and end up being forced into a vacant job opening in order to survive. But what I've found through a lot of rationalizing is that you are alive because your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and so on, were experts at what they provided for society during their time period. Figuring out what they did and the type of people they were allows you to abstractly think of the value you can provide to society. For example, my grandparents from my mom's side were teachers and opportunists, while my dad's side is good with numbers. My parents weren't very traditional and gave me a lot of freedom to do whatever I wanted. What I found interesting is that even before rationalizing the world at the level I do today at 30, I naturally found a groove in teaching and being good with numbers, finding success on KZfaq, without really putting much thought on why I was drawn to it in the beginning, and why the content on KZfaq connected with so many people. It's definitely a philosophical debate whether we have any free will, that everyones journeys was supposed to go exactly the way it was supposed to go and it wasn't supposed to go any other way. But it's why I like doing KZfaq as i've gotten older; society is giving you a hint of what you were meant to do, shown by likes and positive comments on youtube, and its up to you to decide what value you want to provide to others tomorrow. When I made the active choice to lean heavily on my KZfaq channel a few years ago and to fully commit to providing value based on the qualities that people like about my content, I've actually felt the most flow than I've ever been in my life. Of course, this tooks years of learning to innovate, trying out different ideas, to finally working on a master plan. Nowadays, I don't question my value, a lot of the noise of societal expectation is cut out in my mind, and I find I live every day with purpose even though it may not be completely enjoyable. But of course, alternative paths come with it's own internal hardships. Describing to my friends and colleagues what I do has been a painful journey in my early to mid-20s, but I've gotten more confident in my late 20s as I've learned to self-validate myself. I live in a very large extended family, and watching my younger relatives take more traditional paths in medicine, software engineering, accounting, earning six figures, traveling the world, having kids, has been tough on the psyche when they are constantly validated/praised. But as i've gotten older, i've realized you're not too late or too early, and the timeline of your idea of success is a mental prison you set for yourself. Because I know many people who are financially well-off by taking traditional paths, but struggle with stress, struggle with addiction, struggle with emotions, etc. What is financial success worth if you're an unpleasent energy to be around? I never comment on KZfaq, but I feel like i'm ahead of you by 6 years and maybe my perspective could be helpful. But I think its a good trait, myself included, to be aware that there's still a lot we don't know. Because in my mid-twenties, I found that our minds are like lighthouses. Each one shines a light on different ideas, helping us understand the world. But some lighthouses stay dark, hidden in our minds. When we finally light up those hidden lighthouses, not only do they add to our perspective, but they also make the others shine brighter. Anyways I spent too much time writing this, back to work

One other path after graduation is some kind of public service. After playing with climbing the corporate ladder after graduation, I ended up going to work for a state-agency that did work I really believed in for over 5 years before going back full time to grad school. Many people join non-profits of all kinds doing stuff they believe in to get a sense of purpose they can’t find elsewhere. It’s maybe a potential other option

Thanks for a great vlog! I really enjoyed it. My daughter just wrapped up her first year at NYU. She’s in the same program that you are in this episode. I’m in San Diego and she doesn’t vlog so, it’s nice to get a sense of her world through you. Thank you! BTW: what kind of camera was that grey one you shot with? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that one before.

I wish you a great and Happy Birthday! Your earlier videos show that you have a good eye and are able to capture mood with great composition and editing, supported by your growing sense of form and flow. Now your ability to speak your thoughts allow your words to stand on their own with no superfluous elements-no city scenes, no music, but just what you want to say. So you are mastering a greater range of possibilities, and I think all of your fans will eagerly look forward to wherever you take your channel. 🎉
