Hey Kyle! There is a Septarian Nodule Site just North of Kanab on 89 outside Orderville. I’m pretty sure you can find other material around there too. I’m not sure about around Kanab itself. A lot of sandstone in that area. There are some cool dinosaur tracks there though!

Great question. That is a volcanic rock outcropping with a lot of dirt and other mixed smaller rocks, most of which are also volcanic. I “think” the volcanic rock is from a much older volcanic period than some of the neighboring volcanic cinder cones that date to about 30,000 years ago. And a lot of the rock is rhyolite, a silica rich volcanic rock.

@@adventuresofshadowdog thanks for the explanation! I have done lots of rockhounding further south from that location and run into that rock a lot. All of the desert lichen love it. Greetings from Spanish Valley (SE of Moab), I just came across your video and wouldn't you know I just imaged M16 and M20 last night (July 7th) from my observatory outside of Moab. Fun stuff for sure and both images were outstanding, but I think I will see where the cats paw nebula is located and if it's going to be high enough above the horizon for my location. The canyon walls to my south sit almost 20 degrees off the horizon so that anything below 25 degrees is on the skinny edge from my observatory. (I'm rambling ;-) ) Anyhow you have a new sub, you look to be of my generation and if you ever want to get out my way you would have a place to park and setup camp. I'm on 5 acres with plenty of room and I would enjoy the company of another enthusiast of AP ! The weather has been good so far for July and over nite temps are in the low 60's, so not to bad. ;-) Anyhow I'm glad to have come across your channel and take in the adventures of you and Shadow ! Cheers and clear sky's 😅BTW, I just checked and the Cats Paw is defiantly way to low at 13 degrees so off to the Crescent nebula instead... ;-)

Which camera did you use for this particular capture?
@adventuresofshadowdog
@adventuresofshadowdog 17 күн бұрын
For this capture I used the Orion G24, which is the equivalent to the ZWO ASI 2400MC Pro Color camera. This camera has large pixels and is best paired with long focal length telescopes. I would caution against using it with anything under 1,000mm focal length, and preferably greater than 1,300mm. The well depth is huge, allowing for a large dynamic range. But pairing your scope to the right camera is important and pixel size is a big part of that equation. May I ask what scope you plan on using?
@jonathanrodrigues470
@jonathanrodrigues470 17 күн бұрын
@@adventuresofshadowdog thanks for the info! Much appreciated! I use a Celestron C8 with an evolution mount on a wedge. I am a newbie to this hobby. I have a focal reducer to reduce the native focal length of the scope from 2032mm to roughly 1300mm
@adventuresofshadowdog
@adventuresofshadowdog 17 күн бұрын
One of the factors to consider in pairing your scope with a camera is over/under sampling. That’s a confusing topic, but there are some good articles on it and astronomytools.com has a calculator to help you figure it out. Also, the size of the chip. The camera I used and referenced is a full size sensor chip, which again works well with some scopes but not others. I might suggest researching a bit on that topic as well specific to your scope. As I’m sure you already know, this field is COMPLEX to say the least! Please let me know what you find out. We can learn together. Thanks!
