Glad I stayed with my tubular rack system.

I was hoping to see a wise instruction of track from one level to the other. That did not work out, but it confirmed what I already thought, that a much longer grade is needed to climb. My simple advice to you: Unless you are running the old tinplate the place of starting the rise and the end have to be very little, to no obvious bend or crack of the track. Other wise you have hook problems, traction problems and connection problems.

My name is Paul I just found your video very interesting layout. I was trying to figure out how to elevate my American flyer. Wonder if you could tell me the link if you have one that shows how you made the risers out of the PVC pipe and how you connect the board to the. Thank you enjoyed the video keep up the good. Greetings from Southwest Mi.

Still feel the same way about this after having on your layout for a while now? Looking at buying one as I’m beginning to fall into the trap of wanting to “collect them all” regarding the Polar Express line. So hard justifying the expense of this and other PE themed Lionel accessories for someone who is just getting into this hobby (and for the seemingly lack of quality compared to price). If one is planning a primarily PE layout, seems like it would have to be a must have regardless of its faults, no?

Why my Polar Express doesn’t produce so much smoke like yours? I also have the 132 passenger station. Could you please help me to install it on the fast track? The manual teaches just for the old tracks and the insulated section shows that should be with the center rail. All videos about insulation track show doing with the out rails.

I have a Lionel O train I’d like to run from table top up track mounted to a wall that will be about 5 feet above the table. I would appreciate any pointers you can give.

I could not buy the set, never realizing you needed all this to make it run. Where can I buy a controller that will work with his Trolley now?

Back in the days of steel track and Magnatraction, those old postwar locomotives would've pulled that grade with no problem...

How is the strait track with bumpers at each end powered? Do you use a fixed voltage transformer like the one that comes with a basic LionChief train set or one with variable power like a Lionel CW-80 transformer? Can the speed of the trolley be controlled? If yes, then how?

Thanks so much for showing this. I am going to order the trolley tomorrow to add it to my O scale Polar Express train set. I build Lemax / Department 56 Christmas Villages, and this would be an amazing addition. Thanks again.

Unfortunately with Lionel’s same old same old tooling they have been using for years if you want anything with the Polar Express licensing not only do you have to pay a premium but you have to settle on a toy like accessory.

With a TPC you can control conventional trains with a cab 1 or cab 2 remote. The remote controls the power to the track, just like your transformer, so you would still need to increase/decrease power for elevation changes. Still might make things a little easier for filming.

Owen, a couple of things, first, when you have a curve and a grade, the curve adds some resistance to moving the train. Second, if you will take some pliers and gently bend the tap on the tender backward, just a little, this will help the train stay together. In the days of steam, it was not uncommon to double a hill i.e., take half the train to the summit and return for the second half. Thanks for sharing.

I can't find anything that explains how the button activation wiring is hooked up to the operating track. A little help would be appreciated immensely. All I see are color codes on the track but no way to know which wire from the controller corresponds to which color.

I'm in the UK and have been using Lionel mostly S/H prewar as new stuff is not available only if it is imported and that's too expensive, more than doubles the price. Anyway I bought a S/H Penn flyer set with Fastrack oval and I'm very impressed ,so quick easy to put together and had no problems so have bought some more brand new Fastrack on UK eBay, including 3 remote switches , extremely rare new or S/H on UK eBay. I jumped at the chance. good price too.... So will see how it all goes as regards switches, what I want to know is can these switches be automated like the old no 22 tubular track ones? they work great on a single line loop each end. the loco wheel makes the contact across the join and throws the switch ...magic...! I have a problem with the CW80 controller ,the whistle button doesn't work even if I reverse the wires....there is nothing wrong with the whistle,I tested it with a 9 v battery across the track ,this is the newer air whistle type not the heavy old solenoid one. cant test the bell as the loco doesn't have one. Loco runs very well , very quiet can motor...I'm used to the heavy noisy old AC motors.....and tubular track which can be a real pain if its S/H rusty and bent...My S/H.Fastrack works fine, thus far, Merry Christmas from UK!

Owen, I need to build 2 large sets of outdoor steps (like public steps in a hilly town) that will connect lower levels of my Christmas Layout and lead up to the Clock Tower. They need to be about 7 inches in length and 3 inches in width with around 25 steps for each of them. It is a seasonal layout so they will not be glue or attached, just laid in place with snow around the edges. How would you build these and out of what material? Thanks for any help.

Hobby Lobby and other craft stores sell “hobby sticks “ (like popsicle sticks) that should work. Alternatively, they also sell poplar and balsa wood in a variety of sizes. Square 16th inch might also work. Woodland Scenics makes several products that would hold them in place and enhance the winter look. I’ve used Flex Paste with good results.
