Can confirm. This did the trick getting rid of my rotation issues. I used 99% Isopropyl alcohol instead. In my case the yaw rotation would throttle like mad clockwise.

I don't know which was worse, the horrible unfocused shaky-cam video, or the even more annoying air compressor drowning you out. This video was utterly useless to me. I was hoping for some clear close-ups and your video practically made me sea-sick. Feel free to remove this abortion of a video.

Hello everyone, My Saitek X52 Joystick came apart from the base and all the wires with it. I have been searching the web trying to find the wire diagram to re solder them back but no luck. Does anyone have a picture or reference diagram to where each wire goes on the PCB. Thank you all!

I just did this and it took my rudder form utterly useless to fully functional. A few caveats: 1. Deoxit is a much better choice than the water mix used here for the reasons mentioned by George Myers in the comments. 2. Your rudder may squeak after this. A little WD-40 applies to the joints BELOW the potentiometer (NOT on the pot itself) fixed this handily. 3. Canned air is much better than a compressor to dry out your potentiometer and blast out the debris because many compressors mix in moisture and lubricants with the air, neither of which you really want inside your potentiometer.

Update: the stick is right next to me, connected, and has been working just like I had left it almost 4 years ago. It has only that slightest glitch in the rudder, that I never tried to work out more than that. But I may be flying more now again, been on Falcon BMS lately, so who knows.

Thanks for the video. this helped bring my z-axis back to life! it had been constantly jumping to max right turn. A few tips though... getting that handle open is very difficult... putting it back together is worse... I'm actually not sure how I did it without either breaking plastic or tearing out the pinky finger wire.. so be warned! I thought about shaving off some plastic while it was all apart to make future repairs easier. also it might be easy to drill a hole in the handle to give a tube/spray direct access to that pot for future cleaning but without having to open the handle perhaps..... I didn't do it.. but would be easy once it is apart. Also noticed the inside of the joystick actually had a lot of dust! no idea how it gets in there, but it does... so suggest keeping the stick as clean as possible to avoid gumming up the works for as long as possible.... and if its dusty when you open it... clean all that out.

would you recommend this hotas? I see one in my area i could pick up 'lightly used' for $50 Canadian
@bt8406
@bt8406 4 жыл бұрын
I prob wouldn't recommend it. I think with the switch issues, i would google the other models for problems to see if they are more reliable. Whatever switch they used for the stick rotation is not a good design, and there's lots of other sticks out there. I would say the one thing that's most important to a joystick is having a twist rudder, and good feel. Everything else is secondary. I would offer maybe $20, if there is no issue, unless you can guarantee that its proven itself for years.

@bt8406
@bt8406 4 жыл бұрын
yeah, im not sure. i havent looked into what kind of switch it is actually. If it uses light sensing, then grease would block that it seems. It might even be grease thats causing the problem in the first place. Sure is irritating isn't it? If i get back into flight sims more full time ill definitely be replacing the stick.

Little late but and FYI to anybody seeing this and had not cleaned their pot. Do NOT use anything with water in it. Over time the wiper in the switch will get corrosion on it. I rebuild old radios and to clean pots I use a product call Deoxit. Spray a bit in the switch and turn or flip it a few times, another short spray and a few more flips or turns and the Deoxit will clean and lubricate the contacts. After doing this most switches work as new if dirty contact was the only problem with the switch. It also works in key locks.
@justanothercitizen3024

You should never spray a fluid into a lock, that's what graphite powder is for. Any form of fluid lubricant will attract and hold dirt, which will in time cause undue fatigue.
@RCFrizz
@RCFrizz 5 жыл бұрын
@@justanothercitizen3024 That's a good rule in general, but a fluid which will 100% evaporate quickly is seldom a problem. I don't know of any suitable spray lubes for locks. Maybe graphite suspended in a solvent? Hmmm....
@RCFrizz

Good info. Unless it readily evaporates, no liquid should go into a pot! There are plenty of inexpensive sprays designed to flush a pot.

I got mine for x-mas 2005 and it started doing this like a year later. Same with my Dads.. Even the new models appear to have this issue. I recently found these videos about cleaning the potentiometer but mine seems to be FUBAR. Just avoid Saitek X52's all together. All these should have been recalled, it's ridiculous.

You're proven wrong by millions of users who use this thing for more than a decade without even failing them once. Like me. And I'm not the only one. Nice theory, but in 90% of all cases the error sits in front of the computer. Or joystick. Don't you think? I agree that Saitek is not Saitek anymore ever since these US Mad Catz crap guys had taken over the successful 28 year old Swiss brand at the end of 2007 for the laughable amount of $30 million back then and that the quality became... well, like the name Mad Catz already implied it would become... How much these incompetent American washouts had ruined the brand Saitek over the course of only 9 years might tell you the price they sold this tat company for in 2016 to Logitech, which made it become even worse: for $13 million. Yeah, not $30+ but thirteen, in words. But since your joystick is from 2005 it's still a Swiss Saitek quality product and not the shite they produced later on. Mine is from 2005 too, and except for one coolie hat partially quit working in one direction, every now and then, which is unnerving, all other 7 directions still work fine, I'm here on YT to find out how to disassemble it without breaking it to see if there's a fix. And if it was only for cleaning purposes. After 13 years of use. As an avid flight simmer that I am when I am not flying in real life. ;) Unfortunately this video is total bollocks and useless, showing me a video I should watch instead on how to disassemble it...lol

Probably you and your dad were having bad luck and sticks of the same 'monday morning' batch? I have flown many years with mine wich also dates from 2006 or so.. But now, after I installed DCS and purchased the great F16C ( thanks Eagle Dynamics, perfect job ) I've discovered that the rudder is f*cked around center position. Perhaps this was already existing earlier but the viper seams to be pretty sensitive. If this spray fix doesn't work then it's time for a new hotas I guess. Happy flying !
