@@trulylynn9941 no, I do not use lemon juice because tomatoes have enough acid in them. As far as citric acid goes, I do not think anyone should use it. But that’s just my opinion. @@WheretheYoCalsGrow I thought that they where possibly getting pollinated from those, after I commented to you. They are sitting inbetween a bunch of tomato plants.

The other tomatillo that popped up is real dark green and the pods have a longer point to them. Either it is the verd or the pineapple one that came from one I bought years ago. Strange how the seeds can keep like that. They where possibly even in the compost ben when I would dump the old soil after the plants died into the compost to cover up everything that I put in it.

It gets over 100° where I am and my tomato plants are suffering so I just used the yeast and sugar mixture to see what happens. So I will know soon.

I used the large canned tomatoes. I usually get them at Sam’s Club. If you’re making this much, 3 to 4 of the large cans (think there consider restaurant size). Just squeeze the tomato and the seeds come right out. Then follow the same steps

Hello, first I want to tell you do not sound dumb for asking questions and seeking clarification. With that said, let’s start at the top and answer one at a time. You can pressure can or water bath can your sauce, the choice is yours. If your tomatoes are frozen, you do not need to blanch them. Let them thaw and the skins will slide right off. The seeds fall right out with a gentle squeeze. This is to only get the seeds out. Use a colander over a bowl, you want the juice. You do not need to smash them at first. As they cook down you can, but you could also smash them down first or blend them in a blender. It’s up to you. Your sauce should simmer for two hours. This allows everything to cook down. Bring your canning water to a low simmer, fill jars with hot liquid (sauce), place lids on, then into the water. Allow the jars to process in simmering water for 20 minutes. Some people do 30 to 40. Again at least 20 minutes. The water should already be hot when you place the jars into the pot. When you lower your jars into it, the water should cover just over the lids. I hope that answers all your questions.

Corn is a heavy feeders, but they (corn) prefer higher PH such as calcium and phosphorus. Bone meal gives them that. Once a month is what I do in my bags. I’m doing an updated video next week on it.

When my kiddos were younger they loved to go hunting for them with a black light flash light. But they’re teenagers now, so I am all alone. If I’m honest, it’s not as exciting as it was before, lol. So far this year we’ve been lucky not to have as many.

The ones you transplanted out, did you harden them off first? Tomatillo’s takes a long time to grow strong enough. I started mine on Jan 27, 2024 and just planted them out into the garden 10 days ago. I probably could have planted them a few weeks before that. Like you said, very fragile. We’ve had some crazy weather here. I’ve never direct sown tomatillos. So, I honestly can’t give advice on that. If you’re still determined, restart your seeds. No heat mat, it should not be needed now. Water from below, once they break the surface make sure they have enough light. After about a week feed them with a water soluble organic fertilizer. Just a little goes a long way. Feed once every two weeks. After you see there second leaves provide wind, wind will help their stems and roots to become stronger. After two more weeks begin taking them outside to hardening them off. If you’ve done this before it’s the same steps for them. Watch them carefully so the leaves do not burn. Their stems should have a thick width before transplanting out into your garden. Immediately provide them some kind sturdy support so they don’t break over in the wind when you transplant them into your garden. I would pull the flowers and up pot them into bigger pots. Their roots are signaling to the plant to produce. This can happen when they run out of root space. I might add, they take a while to get going. Mine have never seem to be in a rush. I started mine in January and I just put them out into the garden. Now, they’re growing like crazy.

I am assuming you’re asking about the canning process? Not a raging boil, but a low boil/just above a simmer.

I am so sorry, I started this response a few days ago. I am assuming you’re saying they won’t grow after sprouting? They are very easy to get to sprout, but once sprouted, like all young seedlings, things can go wrong quickly. If your using a potting mix, it should have enough food, but if your using seed starting mix, after you see their second set of leaves, feed them. I use a table spoon of fish emulsion in a gallon of water. Here’s the tricky part, over watering will cause them to dampen off and die, under watering them will cause them dry out and die. Too much or not enough light will do the same. Since they’re sprouting, soil should feel damp, not wet, once sprouted and you see the second leaves begin sprouting, start feeding them once a week. I’ve had a hit and miss experience with Gurney’s seeds. The best ground cherry seeds I’ve found are from MI Gardener and Survival Garden Seeds. They grew the best for me last year. Ground cherrys are pretty hardy plants. I usually just set the seeds on top of the soil, give a light dusting on top, (make sure your soil is damp), and then water from the bottom. Lots of warmth and filtered sunlight at first.

Thank you for your post. No you’re correct, I did not mention that used organic potting mix from Coast of Maine. But, as I started/before I planted the raspberry, on the screen I showed and mentioned that I had put Espoma’s Berry Tone fertilizer into the pot and mixed it in the soil before planting. It is designed for fertilizing berry plants. I still use it today. I’m sure there are others, but it’s what I perfer.
