Probably the last WC before all the soul was stripped from it. I miss when football was about pride of playing for your team and not chasing the money the way it has increasingly become.

I always loved the FA Cup more than anything else, then at 14 I became a Christian. I never heard this hymn before that and it blew me away with Love and it's humility. Then when I found out that it was the song sung on Final Day, I cried, because something that I love so much also honours God on the final day. I believe, if this song was ever to be taken away, that the UK would be in for some very dark times indeed. God Bless You 🙂 ♥️ ✝️

You don't understand the hym, you don't understand why the working class sang it at an FA cup final. In the context of football it has very little to to with a God.
@cathalrooney3564Ай бұрын
@@whatmatters683 Can you tell me why was sung then!? After the Composer Henry Francis Lyte died it was adopted by the FA, it was also sung as the Titanic sank. The FA introduced it to bring people together in faith that were not normally religious. Can I have your explanation and does it come from history or contemporary thinking? Are you changing its meaning based on rising secularism?

Both the BBC and ITV deserve a lot of credit for the work that goes into these intros for such competitions. In 2016 the UEFA European Championships were obviously held in France. BBC and ITV clearly had very different intros to their coverage of each game but each in their own right were very good to see.👏🤝👍
