Hall & Oates had a great run for a long time but like a bad marriage it eventually ended. It's just too bad both guys can't work out their financial details privately and just move on in separate directions permanently. Both guys are in their seventies & no one is going to live forever.

I understand that the interviewer is friends with Oates. But with that said he should’ve kept himself neutral when discussing what’s going on with Hall and Oates, instead of painting Oates as the victim. Because he’s only hearing one side of the story, Oates’ side, and that side is very vague at that.

John Bonham was the reason I picked up the drumsticks. It is so much fun drumming along to "The Rover" too. Jason and I are around the same age, but I can't help but feel so proud of him for all of his accomplishments. Maybe one day I will be able to meet him and tell so in person.

John sees the H&O brand as complete and finished and Daryl wants to maintain it, it seems? Interesting info about the record grooves. Never knew that.

I like the way that John talks and explains things. Very intellectual. And he does seem to have alot of points. But maybe I would be considered old fashioned, or archaic to John, because I am "old school" thinking. When John said that he and Daryl started their business partnership in 1972, I was 6 years old then! (And going through a tough time in my life). But about John; I wish I knew what he meant when he said that he had wanted to move on with his music career; exactly what is he referring to, or how was his plans causing a problem for Daryl? I don't know, only John knows Daryl, we are just the fans. Was John trying to reinvent himself, by starting a new business, and that he needed the funds to do that, so he had thought that selling his half to a company that made him an offer that he couldn't refuse, was the answer?? I can see why Daryl had a problem with that. Daryl probably felt that they had made all of those songs together as a team, and that John was planning to let that money-grabbing company to rip that apart?! Maybe Daryl could have given John a friendship loan-gift, to help John to get his new business up and running, without having to ruin a 50 year friendship-business relationship?

@9:30 real bluegrass fan's understand the California influence on the genre. From Clarence, Roland and Eric White to Herb (father) Larry, Tony, Ronnie and Wyatt Rice to The Dillard's, David Grisman all the way to Billy Constables and even the Grateful Dead influence... it changed the 2nd generation of Bluegrass all together.

I find the ending of the friendship and broken bonds between Daryl Hall and John Oates very, very sad. At one time, these guys were just tremendous friends....and sometimes things can change. Circumstances changes and people change and sometimes friendships and the bonds can change or even end. But I will say....I will always enjoy their music whether they are together or solo or with other bands and other musicians. I will enjoy their music, as these guys are truly great.

The problem is, if John passes away -- as we all do, then he is leaving his family with a messy business arrangement. When you get a certain age and you are a responsible person, you make plans that include the fact that all of us eventually die. That's not to say he is going to die anytime soon, but you do have to plan for the worst when it comes to your estate. John is entitled to simplify his financial life in all manner... and Daryl really needs to respect that and do the work to allow it to happen without being a bitch about it.
@waynedexter4 күн бұрын
How do you know Oates calling the situation with Hall a “messy business situation” is actually true? …and him not trying to portray himself as the victim in the court of public opinion Because ultimately we’re only getting one side and that side can’t/won’t give us specifics

It's nice to get John's feedback about moving on in his life and music so I now understand why he wants to move on from his Hall & Oates days. He's found where he feels comfortable with his music and that's the best thing for him. Really enjoyed this discussion.

Great interview! It was pretty cool that John mentioned he was just at The Musical Instrument Museum. I went to his Friday concert. He was fantastic. Being onstage performing his songs, his way, rocked. Super happy for him! I also happened to go the last concert he did with Daryl, in Laughlin, 2 yrs ago. John was great and professional as usual, but the happiness glow, was missing. Glad he did what he did, to get the glow back.💙

I was listening to Waiting For Columbus on vinyl the other week. Bill sure had some room to jam when they had Tower Of Power's horns. So glad to hear on top of being a talented musician and songwriter that he's also a human being with a moral compass re: his non-musical opinions which based on the title of this video is what got me to watch rather than save to a playlist. I love this channel. Yes, I just subscribed.

I was invited to a show last year on PA, was exited to see the opening act. Best thing I did was stay for Rev and his damn band. Absolutely blew me away. Now I’m taking 5 people with me to the next show to see them in MD paid for all the tickets, cause they need to experience this!

I realize art & politcs kinda inseparable but ... sure do wish they were. I'm failrly sure "Mr Bill PAYne" - Lowell's wonderful acknowledgement of him during one of WFC's wonderful solos - wouldn't agree w/ my politics AT ALL (at least not anytime soon), but that doesn't mean I don't love Little Feat's stuff & especially many of his own songs on their records. (Blues Keep Coming, Rag Top Down, & the beautiful Taking My Time off the debut to name just three off the top of my head.) I remember too going to see Paul & Fred and being really bummed out (not an exaggeration) of a political comment Barrere made while intro-ing Willin'. Remeber thinking, "Dude, I came here (paid blue-collar worker money for the tix) to hear - AND cheer - the songs, not for politcal commentary. Oh well ... I still - and always will love Little Feat's remarkable music. That they're not in the RnRHoFa slight embarrasing to both the museum & music. And rest in peace Paul Barrere, still love your unforgettably cool songs too (Skin It Back, All That You Dream & yer 80s' solo record shouldn't been gold.

Very true, this band imploded. Better than most bands, sophomore album was a gem and better than just about any band ever put together.
