My theory is that there is a lot of undiagnosed ADHD in the drumming community. ADHD is known for Emotional Dysregulation and RSD. If it’s true that Ron has substance abuse issues too, this is also explained by ADHD because people with ADHD are more predisposed to developing substance abuse. The intense hyperfocus that is needed to reach his level on the drums is also explained by ADHD. There is also a massive drive for people with ADHD to overachieve, which is why they often excel in certain areas, because they are trying to prove their worth. The more I understand ADHD the more compassion I have for stuff like this because he simply may not be able to help it. Ron possibly needs help, not criticism.

He does miss a cymbal @ 6:46 just before he stops and gets angry. That might have added to it.

I hope Ronald gets some help. That's all I gotta say. I wish him well. I hope he continues to succeed. But I also hope he talks to someone about what's going on inside. When it starts showing on the outside and ruining gigs, it's already past the time to talk to a professional. Sending many blessings. 🙏🏾❤️

Yep. It takes a lot of daily practice and the show changes just about every week. It progressively gets more and more complex as the fish (Freshmen cadets) learn. All cadets are required to have been in High School marching band all four years and most aren’t accustomed to the military style drill, so they have to learn quickly. One wrong move and it would throw the whole thing off. It also helps that the upperclassmen put the “fear of God” in the fish. They know if they screw it up, they will pay dearly for it. All of that is in addition to the Corps of Cadets life and studies. So a lot of work goes into it and Aggies know that no matter how awful our football team is, they “never lose a halftime.”

Having an attitude can & will always get in the way of your playing. He can play but he can't play with an attitude in the way or even being on some type of substance.

Perhaps there was an Issue with the Drum Tech, IF Ronald B. Jr. has one!! The MUSIC and AUDIENCE should NOT have to suffer because of "personal" ISSUES"!! The Epitome of UNPROFEESIONAL!! His Drumming is Incredible, ...his "ATTITUDE" is WAY out of POCKET!! Hopefully there's More to this than the video shows!! ✊🏿💯✊🏿

Mr. Brunner is a remarkable musician. Very often musicians have issues that can make them incredible players but also challenging to live and work with (Buddy Rich?). Some bandleaders put up with it and let them be themselves as long as they don't do too much damage. I suspect that Kenny Garrett does just that... profiting, at his own risk, of course. As someone said, this way of being will undoubtedly catch up with Ronald if he doesn't get a handle on it. It's a level of volatile immaturity. I'm inclined to believe there's some level of childhood trauma involved... as with most of us. Generally, I don't enjoy listening to him because, even though he's a phenomenal technician, I can always tell that he's not sensitively connected to the music. I wish him the best.

Rudy Bird is a veteran percussionist who's been playing and touring with Kenny for 40 years. I first heard him play on Mulgrew Miller's album _Wingspan_ , which is a great introduction to Kenny and Rudy. I've seen both Ronald and Rudy live with Kenny, so something was up--hopefully just for this one show. For those who don't know, Ronald is Stephen Bruner's (Thundercat's) brother; maybe family can help out here. I'm sitting 5000 miles away, so I sure can't be one to judge. ❤ to the whole band.

I feel weird bringing this theory up....but it looked like RBJ was not feeling what the percussionist was playing. He kept hearing him do stuff and his face would contort. Then he stops playing completely a few times to see what he'd play without drums, and was obviously not impressed. Then he does a wild snare fill ending perfectly on the 1 at 6:55, and no percussion in the break, which really pisses him off. Then the percussionist tries to fix his drums, but he's thinking, "f you I don't want your help, I want you to play better!" RBJ then goes wild when he comes back in at 9:03, even coming in a hair early to clip the percussionist. He's goin crazy, like to say I don't even need you here. At 9:55, percussionist plays some nice stuff on the up beats sounding pretty in the pocket at least to me. RBJ looks over at him and smiles in approval. Regardless of the musicianship at play, this is so disrespectful to crash out like that on the gig, especially on someone else. I wouldn't care if he was the best drummer around, I'd be not calling him again lmao. To show your discontent w someone onstage like that is crazy and doesn't help the gig, a band is on the same team and should at least try to go up together not bring each other down, Especially on stage! Dumb antics 1/10 only 1 point cuz RBJ can really play the f#4k outta the drums -1000 aura for being a toddler onstage
