Are you rinsing the brush between each color wash, or a different brush for each color?
@LaineyBug20203 ай бұрын
The 3x3 grid not only helps you frame the composition and transfer the image to your page, but it also allows you to line up the composition with the focal points folthe rule of 3rds wher the piece is more aesthetically pleasing if the focal points line up with the intersections of the 3x3 grid. All of your examples did!

Wow, years of drawing and I didn't know that about ellipses. Thank you! Actually I've learned a great deal from your online course. I love you proper matter of fact way of teaching. More what I'm used to (55 years old). Not like some of the namby pamby 'art teachers' on KZfaq. I trust your information and methods.

Hi, sorry for the delay. The aperture depends on the proportions of the paper that you are using for drawing. If the paper is A4 size then the aperture (hole) needs to be cut at the same proportion 1: 1.4 approximately. Something like 82mm x 56mm - aperture size - that’s what I use . The measurement of the outside piece of card doesn’t matter - whatever suits you best to hold. If the paper isn’t A4 you’ll need to measure the width and length of your paper and work out the ratio eg 1:1.4, 1:1.5: 1.1.6 etc and cut the apperture to that proportion. Hope that helps.

@@thistleheartprints7880 thank you! I will, ...and by the way, I had no idea about complementary colours! just done one with blue and orange which was great!
@thistleheartprints78802 жыл бұрын
@@jessiebenavides3862 I use complimentary colours all of the time. Have a look at the impressionists paintings and you will see they very deliberately put green against red, blue against orange and yellow against purple. It makes a helluva difference to a painting and elevates your work to another level. Have fun and thanks for your comment

I'll have to try this method. I've been using a kind of scraping-technique with an old store card. I saw Terry Harrison using it in a video. It takes a bit of practice, but it results in random rock patterns - ideal for cliffs and sma rocks. But for stones it lack that roundness you mentioned, or maybe I'm not doing the technique properly...
@thistleheartprints78802 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. No teacher has the “right” way so you are doing the best thing ie Seeing what others can suggest and trying out their methods. You’ll probably find something that is “your” way which uses a few ideas. Good luck and keep experimenting.

🤩 What a fantastic advice! Thank you so much for that. Now I know that it’s better not to draw from the head as I always thought that would be definitely the case with accomplished artists 😊
@thistleheartprints78802 жыл бұрын
I don’t know any professional artist who would draw or paint out of their head. I think you are right though in that it is a misconception. “Real” artists look extremely carefully at what they are trying to draw and draw what they see and not what they think they see. Now that you understand this , it will open a path for you. Enjoy your creativity now as it is limitless. P x

Well I am a fairly experienced artist and I have just learnt how to do a stone wall successfully. I would do the stones individually not as just individual blocks but kind of blended together. I now did washes as you suggested and it is a great way to accomplish a natural wall. I am really pleased with the result. You are a great teacher too. Thanks

Very helpful, thank you. My watercolours are far too tight at the moment, it is difficult to break free after years of doing it that way !!
@thistleheartprints78804 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t worry too much about being too tight. Painting style is very personal and perhaps it best suits you ,as an artist, to paint how you naturally want to paint. The pressure is always on to “loosen up” but not all artists benefit from that advice . Have belief in yourself - I’m sure you paint just fine. P x
@JVSwailesBoudicca4 жыл бұрын
@@thistleheartprints7880 How very kind of you to reply and your words meant a lot to me. You are right, I am always being told I "must"loosen up ! My favourite subjects to paint are architecture & portraits. I love doing the detail and so loosening up is hard to do - as you might appreciate ! I have however learnt to soften the edges and not to completely fill the scene with detail now. Your tips on mixing stonework colours will come in very handy so thank you again & I look forward to seeing more of your watercolour work.
