A good educational video. I have been operating dozers/scrapers/graders/loaders etc since I left school at 16, am 74 now and still doing it full time. Things have changed a bit since that video was made in the form of GPS machine control to make working to finish grades a lot easier and quicker and more accurate, but the basic fundamentals of moving dirt are still the same and that video was excellent in covering all of that. It should be compulsory viewing for all wannabe operators.

Where do you find the track wear charts? Im looking at a 450c with an easy 25.5 inches. Wondering what percentage that would be
@JimMackHeavyEquipment25 күн бұрын
You would find that from the OEM. John Deere makes an "Undercarriage Appraisal Manual (sp326vol1)" and in there for a 450c it lists the new track chain pitch as 25.19" and 100% worn would be 25.67". Unfortunately I don't know any where you can get this manual for free. I hope that helps!
@JimMackHeavyEquipment25 күн бұрын
@@michaelscafe2818 oh, and your measurement of 25.5" would be considered about 65% worn.
@michaelscafe281823 күн бұрын
@@JimMackHeavyEquipment that helps greatly. Thank you. I might have closer to 25.67 if I stretched the track as you showed. I wasn't able to move the machine, so I just measured it as it sat. Worst case is I buy the machine from my friend and turn the pins/bushings and probably replace some rollers. As far as sprockets, is an 1/8 to 3/16 inch flat on the crest of the tooth worn too sharp, or is that still serviceable?

Greatly informative. I was wondering why an NPT female fitting I was working with had a conical seat inside. Now I know it is NPSM. Thank you.
@JimMackHeavyEquipment2 ай бұрын
Awesome, glad to hear it was helpful! And your right, that is NPSM and would need a male NPSM fitting with an internal chamfer to seal properly; it would not seal with a regular NPTF male connection.

I would imagine the comment he responded to was thinking of smaller passenger cars. Pulling off and centering the steering wheel without adjusting toe (on a passenger vehicle) is obviously not going to align the vehicle. But honestly any newer/modern passenger vehicle that I’ve worked on usually has a key in the splines so that the steering wheel can only be installed in one position… so idk maybe the commenter was thinking of some of the older stuff? Big rigs with the solid front axles and one tie rod tube connecting the ends is pretty simple. Get the front toe within spec and straight ahead, then set your steering wheel straight. If you can’t get both sides of the front toe in spec using that method… you got bent, loose or fucked up steering/suspension components and go from there. Honestly big rig setups sound awesome compared to the new German stuff I have to work on these days lol

I've ran D10N thru D11T and the wear ripping on the tracks was mostly seen on rail between pins ,I've seen them so bad that operator couldn't stand it in the seat on any kind of hard surface and was actually shaking and vibrating machine apart! Had several track techs come out and say because sprocket and pins didn't show wear that they where still 75% good? I would say measure rail height at pins and then in middle between pins! I've seen anywhere between 1" to 11/2" or more difference! It kills operator eats horsepower and vibrates shaking machine! Also seen rails wear flats on Idlers from hitting same spot continuously! Flat tracks on D9H would usually wear out pins and bushings!
