Fun fact: Daniel Emmett, The composer of Dixie, was a stunt unionist. When he learned of the confederacy using his melody as a rallying cry, he said "if I had known to what you said they were going to put my song, I will be damned if I have written it."

One thing the North didn't have was a marching song like this. Meaning no disrespect to a United States and with love to ALL its people, I'll still have to say that as a descendant of Southern Confederates my heart swells when I hear this tune.
