Now that a Riven remake has been released where you can play in 3d or VR maybe we will see Exile get a remake in a few years as well.

This game has such a niche nostalgia for me. My teacher spent half the school year letting us play it instead of normal lessons when I was 9/10 and it was an experience. I love this game so much.

I just prefer the 360 nodes, prerendered graphics myst 3 and 4 had.

I want more games with the 360 node, prerendered, point and click gameplay. I never really liked the 3D versions (myst 5), and Uru was just a bit of a pain, control-wise, to play.

38:15 the orange rings are heaters, because riven water has bacteria that makes it repel from heat (i guess the big boiler filters/kills the bacteria)

Riven may be the best Myst game, but Exile is a great vibe, basically like Myst 1 for gameplay. I was able to complete all of exile at age 7 except for the Narayan puzzle

I remember it being quite fascinating and immersive. I'll be replaying as soon as I get through the 2021 Myst and the most recent Riven. Definitely worth it 👍

I see now why the project was called *The Starry Expanse* I especially love "how" they "solved" the mile-plus long bridge that connected Crater and Dome islands.

Brilliant game!!!, All of the first 3 are as good as each other in my view. Myst was a game changer!!!

the boiler is for creating paper pulp that gehn uses to make paper for books. the minecart takes the wood from jungle island and dumps it into the woodchipper to prepare it for the boiler. the pipe you're walking through is the drain of the boiler. pretty much nothing in the game is there for no reason, it's nuts

Riven might have better graphics. I think the game is way too complicated and poorly indicated. You spend lots of time going from place to place only to get lost and some of the riddles require you to just try everything. Still a very good game, but very frustrating at times. And that's why I don't like it that much.

Obduction, also from Cyan, was full 3D and still used FMVs for characters and holograms. They were actually pretty neat, and seemed to be in stereoscopic 3D when playing Obduction in VR.

FYI Riven Remake in Unreal Engine like the 2021 Myst remake is out, and it is more amazing than the Myst remake IMO.

For a remake that mostly looks even more realistic and beautiful than the original, to start you out with a very cartoony looking Atrus just shows how bad of a move this was. It completely takes you out of the experience and makes you feel like you are watching some stupid kids cartoon. The movement of his lips don't even match the words coming out of his mouth. Couldn't they have had FMV or like real human textures displayed on top of the 3D model or something like that? They really should have learned their lesson and at least given the option to see FMV. Not everyone is playing this in VR. Then immediately after that when I start walking around, everything is shimmering strangely. The stuff on that island in the distance, the rails going over the ocean, the moving shadows of the moving grass on the ground right next to me. So because everything else looks so amazing, it these strange bits just stand out to me even more and pull me out of the experience.

The remake is absolute garbage... nothing beats this classic! NOTHING

Hey another little change with the keyboard - w moves forward, but shift-w runs... so W (capital) runs. So you can caps-lock to toggle run permanently, which makes shift-capital-W walk. Thought that was neat!

I actually really liked Myst III, perhaps because Brad Dourif is a great character actor and it progressed Atrus's story. Some of the puzzles were oddly implemented, but I still have a pretty soft place in my heart for this one. To be fair, I'm a sucker for any Myst related content, so perhaps I'm not the most objective person on this ...

Warcraft III was so good! I hated that Warcraft became a MMORPG, for me it was always an RTS

They outdid themselves, this is the first they've fully succeeded in getting down the look and vibe of the original CG but in real time Not to knock the Myst remake but it still didn't quite rebottle it the way this one has

Also I got that glitch with Ghen as well. If you click it the second time it works perfectly. The first time messes up .

They did a stunning job with the remake/expansion of this game! My favourite areas were Ghens Lab, Ghens 233rd age, Catherine’s Prison Island. I also love the music that plays in that area.

Thanks for reacting to this! I tried to find similar replacement footage from the original for the new stuff in the remake. I definitely think the original graphics hold up to the remake even all these years later. There's some details missing from the remake that were in the original and vice versa.

I agree about the FMV and the linking book-which I wonder if they did because they felt that they didn't have the resources to make burning look good in a 3D environment? Though I believe there were creative workarounds they could've explored, such as making the burning effect either 2D or have the transition burn toward the inside of the link rather than toward the player. As for FMV, maybe by next version they can use ML for 3D characters.
