As someone who hasn't read the book, I really liked this show. While I do feel that urge of wanting more, I feel like six episodes was a perfect amount. I have seen plenty of YA mystery shows (Riverdale S1, 13 Reasons Why, Pretty Little Liars, ect...) stretch things out for way too long. I'd dare to say that this show has the potential to be better than all of those other shows mentioned, especially if it finishes this series while maintaining this quality.

As someone who has watched ALOT of TV and hasn't read the book (but has seen all of the show), I get why they added the thing with her dad. It helps fuel the suspicion of Sal for Pip (and subsequently the non-book reading audience). If this seemingly great guy did something possibly shady, what does that mean for Sal? I think it's a smart move, especially after we just spent 3ish episodes finding out that other people in her life were holding dark secrets.

I agree! I think it also served to show that not all secrets have malicious intent behind them. Pip also gets a chance to learn to rebuild her trust in her dad after her faith in him was shaken, as it was with Sal.

Wow, you guys noticed a lot of things I didn't when I watched it for the first time. Like the Tinder part in Patrick's scene, I didn't even realize he had a guy as an option confirming he's Bi. Great reaction.

Make the movie full screen and have your camera in a vignette that takes up 1/4 - 1/3 the screen, put your video in the lower left (on top). 💜 Please remove the Movie title overlay. Ocassionally when you talk, switch the video source full-screen to you.

Frank Herbert wrote the Dune books as a WARNING to beware of leaders being propped up on pedestals in the form of religion, politics, etc, and to not become too dependent on them. After he wrote Dune, most people did not get that message and so he wrote the sequel, Dune: Messiah to portray Paul losing control of the forces he unleashed and to show that even with noble intentions, how terrible it can become and to not act like leaders are perfect and flawless.

My read on what mother Anasia was doing when she turned to smoke, was her trying to teleport her and Mae away from the fight. And possibly to go and put out the fire.

AGGGTM is my favourite book series of all time so having it on screen is everything to me. I’m in Australia so we’ve already had the show a month now. Asha portrayed Cara SO perfectly. No one could have done it like her. The way she adapted her onto screen was phenomenal. I was in tears watching Cara coming into school like that, you could tell Cara was so broken and she didn’t deserve any of that. God, I wanted to reach into the screen and give her the biggest hug. Asha did an amazing job portraying that. I really like that Ravi went and got Cara when he was worried about Pip- you could tell she still loves and cares for her despite everything and I think it was a really full circle moment for their friendship after everything they went through. The casting was absolutely elite and everyone was so perfect for their characters. I personally really thoroughly enjoyed the show!

I'm glad to see Asha Banks getting so much love for her performance as Cara. I know Pip and Ravi usually get all the spotlight, but in my opinion Cara's always been underrated and I couldn't be happier with her portrayal. Both her and Yasmin Al-Khudhairi as Naomi killed it as the Ward sisters. I only wish we could've seen Naomi's reaction after everything came out, but there's always room for that in future seasons. I felt the exact same way about the show and I'm happy to see a fellow fan of the series enjoy the show as much as I did!

She is crazy talented! I definitely agree- she’s my favourite character and so underrated and her storyline is too. Omg yes Yasmin did incredible too- they both did! And honestly the casting directors did such a great job as I’m surprised they aren’t real sisters they look so alike! I do agree- but I’m hoping if we get a season two we will see it then as i think Naomi’s response will be more of a domino effect. I’m so glad you enjoyed it too! We have to keep streaming so we can get a season two hehe.

Another commenter mentioned The Old Guard (starring Charlize!) and I second that but also you mentioned it looked like they just drove a truck into the ground at the Nux death scene and they literally DID. You should watch the behind the scenes. The stunt driver has been the same through the entirety of the Mad Max movies and this was kind of his final stunt before he retired. The shot was accomplished with a dummy sitting in the driver seat and the stunt driver driving from the other side of the truck. When it turned over, George Miller was watching from a screen in a tent and he literally ran outside because of how realistic it looked, he thought his friend had just crashed on his head! Luckily, the stunt man emerged unscathed and it is honestly one of the most impressive moments in stunt history for me. Also you guys got a new follower!

Another big difference is the time lapse versus the book and movie. It's several years of Paul disrupting spice production that draws the emperor. Paul has a son that is actually killed by the Sadekar and Alia, Paul's sister. Is 9 years old when he attacks the emperor. So they've been on Arrakis for more than 10 years.😂
@conraddickinson24
@conraddickinson24 21 күн бұрын
The movie actually got it pretty close to the book with the "prophecy". It was planted by an arm of the Bene Gesserit called the Missionaria Protectiva. They did this on planets like Dune to be used if needed by the sisters so they could survive by tapping into the prophecy.

Another change they made was that the emperor was the one that killed Rabban. When the Baron comes in to see the emperor Rabban's head is sitting in front of him. And another change was that Paul's sister was already born in the books by the time meets the emperor, and if she kills the Baron.

In the book the use of atomic weapons was forbidden. If one of the Houses used atomix in war they would pay a very heavy price. Paul gets around this by not using the atomics on the Harkonnens, but on the shield wall.

Yes, the Bene Gesserit in the books, just like they show in the movies, can control their bodies to the point where they can determine the sex of a child.

Of course another change that was made from book to movie is that Feyd was the one attempting to assassinate the Baron, not the other way around. The conversation that they have after the gladiatorial arena fight kind of happens in the book but after the Baron finally gets fed up with Fayd's attempts on his life.

Another difference is Paul writing a worm. In Fremen kulture 12 year old children ride the worms for the first time.

Something they also gloss over in the movie versus book is the use of Lasguns. If there are Shields being used in an area and that Lasgun should come in contact with the shield there would be a thermonuclear explosion which is why they didn't use Lasguns in the desert either.
@conraddickinson24
@conraddickinson24 21 күн бұрын
Something that they do in the movies, that you would never do in the books, is if you were a Harkonnen or Freman you would never use shields in the desert because it would attract the worms.

I personally really loved both movies but in the first movie I wish they would have left more of the entry and manipulation from the book. When you see the Saudakar floating up the side of those rocks, of course it's not in the book, but I would guess that they're using the same technology that Baron Vladimir Harkonnen uses to float. Just an FYI in case it wasn't explained well enough, Jessica was the "bound concubine" of Duke Leto not his wife, they never married.

I have a theory that the stanley character is replaced by the character that helped pip twice (calamity party and the blue truck). We really did not get much information about them so i think its a possibility that they js converted stanleys character and made pip have a stronger connection to them so it makes more sense on why pip goes on a downward spiral after stanleys death
@ChannelNamePending699
@ChannelNamePending699 16 күн бұрын
That's an interesting theory and it does make sense, but if true that would certainly be one of the biggest changes and I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. I still really hope we get to see Stanley in season 2.

I read the American edition of the book but I was able to figure out it took place in England. Everything about it seemed so English, including how walkable Pip's town is and how she relies on a passenger train to move around on a timely schedule. I had no idea it was British at first, but I still just reset it in England while reading because it just doesn't make sense as an American town to me. It didn't work. The picture in the second book of a courtroom full of people in white wigs just confirmed my suspicions. These books are too English to hide it. I wish American editors trusted the American public a little more and just kept the books as they were.

I realized that Qimir had no intention of killing Jecki at first. He knew she was a child. He could’ve killed her at any time, but it was not until his identity was revealed that he actually dealt the final blow. It’s sad that she died, but the way she went out was cool.
