How can you not include the Hatch Iconic?

This reel is a very good value; the dimensions, drag, weight price, cost of spools, etc. The only issue I have with the Rise is the extremely muted outgoing sound. It’s just super quiet and I prefer a little more noise on the outgo.

I like this rod, but I'm skeptical. We have some ridiculously oversized trout here in Colorado.

I started fly fushing alittle late in life. ( At sixty). If i could give any advise to someone staring out. Do not listen to alot of the snobbery & eliteism that you to will probably listen to. Buy a decent qaulity rod & learn how to cast! I have two clearwater rods. They have served me well for twelve years. I dilligently learned to cast, tie my knots, & fish the streams, ponds, rivers, & lakes that i was on! I catch just as many fish or more than some of the rod snobs that ive interacted with!

12wt isn't enjoyable to cast, 8wt is sufficient for giant trevally unless you heavily rely on rod power while fighting it.

Wait... the sound of my 1/1 platinum plated diamond encrusted orvis reel doesn't bring in more fish???? I thought fly fishing wasn't for the poors. What the fuck tom.

Is it possible to send you a rod to review. I am a small custom fly rod manufacturer, produce my own blanks and custom lengths, my newest rod is a 6 foot 10 inch

A while back, I broke the tip on my Thomas & Thomas so I got an Echo Carbon XL to use until I got the T&T repaired. I loved the Echo so much, I never went back to the (much) more expensive rod. I'd be curious to see where that falls on this list.

Thank you for the review. Based on your video, I bought this rod as a back up to my Dragontail and for my daughter to use for panfish. Great rod for small streams and has handled trout up to 16"with ease! Very pleased with the rod.

Most of expensive brand flyreels are made in China, - or parts of them, - I agree. So I bought some reels by TEMU for freshwater fishing. Only one of five comes in with a little problem - the ball-bearing in false way out. Ideal for an left hand caster. TEMU accept exchange, problem solved.

I will be getting this for my salt 8 weight later in the year. I went with the cheaper eco reels for my 2 and 3(overlined glass) weights since they are really just line holders and never use the drag on them

Stuck between this reel and the Okuma Helios SX. On here you say this reel has a cork drag system but I'm pretty sure the product page says carbon fiber which if true is better than the Okuma which is felt. The Okuma cost about twice as much but I'm not sure it's really a better reel.

Hey there,.. it's not about how much you spend on a fly rods and reels,... I own several high-end rods and they don't cast any better than my cheap ghetto rods ( not really ghetto) but you know what I mean.. the best rod is the one that feels good in your hands and works well for you,... whether it was cheap or it cost you your left testicle,.. fish don't give a shit how much you spent on your gear! As for you Prima Donna's, go and spend $$$$ thousands if it helps you sleep at night 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've bought everything from Maxcatch to Orvis Blackout $1000 rods. I'll never buy another Maxcatch or another $1000 rod. There is nothing a thousand dollars about a $1000 rod. There are plenty of cheaper rods that will catch loads of fish.

A great reel. Machining is good. line is not bad. For the price it is a fantastic reel that has performed flawlessly on everything from Smallmouth & Largemouth, some over 4lbs. Trout up to 21” & even down to the shore for Schoolie stripers. Salt has been no problem. I fish sealed and no sealed reels in salt with no problems. Pull the spool of, swish around in bucket of water wipe down and let air dry. This is a killer reel that if it said O-VIS on the side would cost WAYY more.

I'm 50/50 on the back pack. Having the option to carry a backpack might suit me better. Also isn’t airflow compromised with the material on the back of the vest compared to mesh backs most vest use? I feel it would be a hot treck in this vest. Saying that, convenience of having one pack would be good. Not having backpack straps over the vest pockets may also work out well. Anyone whose used this vest got any insights pertaining to my issues?? Would appreciate it.

The prodict description says medium fast action but in the Amazon q&a a WW rep says slow action. My fly shop said the 5/6 definitely needed 6wt line and I should cast slow suggesting slow action ?

Good timing here too! I watched your budget rod vid and was looking at the Matchcatch Premier rod. They have a bundle with the Avid reel for 110 or their Toro reel for 123, Avid with a bunch of lines for 128. Think I'm going with the 128 bundle as my 1st setup.

3 years later I hope it's still spot on. After doing a lot of research, vids, reading, looking at product, tons of fishing vids I decided to try this fly fishing path. Ironically, I just ordered your first pic, the maxcatch combo. Also decided, these will be the only flies I'll ever buy as I plan to tie my own. Lots of fun and aggravation ahead for certain! Looking forward to the adventure.

Years ago I was fishing with my father and he hooked himself deeply into his finger with a barbed hook. I was freaked out but he calmly sat down and used his multi-tool to cut the eye off of the fly, and then grabbed the back of the hook with his pliers and popped it through the other side of his skin and just pulled the whole thing through. Ever since that day I have kept that trick in my back pocket. I have also considered that hook sharpness is incredibly important, not just for cleanly setting a fish, but for retrieval through the skin. I am quick to discard dull hooks

I have used the Featherlight for several years now, fun inexpensive rig. I use it most on small creeks here in MN catching River chubbs… jump like brookies, but not table fare! Nice review!!
