Yea, there is a lot of trash there from fires and landslides. You have to be very picky detecting that side.

Honestly, something that high and deep in the city will usually be a pipe or piece of a fence buried. I wouldn’t dig it if it was more than a foot deep but you just never really know unless you dig. If you do dig it, let me know what you found. Good luck.

Hi. No you do not need a permit to metal detect at Cabrillo Beach. The lifeguards are really cool there also. Good luck to you.

It’s all to form a better sense of what the target number is and the depth you get. Even buried you have to take into account the type of soil, the moisture, the position of the target and other things. It will never guarantee a result for you, just allow you to form a better judgement on what to dig.
