Team Black here 🖤 It was such a good 1st episode Rhaenyra & Daemon's chemistry is insane, and he had the best intentions he just f-ed up BIG time😭 Phia Saban as Helaena is incredible! She plays a beautiful Cassandra in Helaena, and you can see her watching the crib as she says she is scared of the rats. Like she is tragically calling her own visions to life

Team black all the way 🖤 Daemon and Rhaenyra together are the IT couple for the show for me. He loves her so much that he doesnt think about what hes doing....she said she wanted Aemond and he went. I hope he had asked people who were a little more capable 😬 The actrice that plays Helaena is soooo good. So fragile and yet fierce. I wonder how clear her visions are, did she already know what was gonna happen and knows she cant change it. So she only gets a feeling? I might start reading the books because I cant get enough 😝

The writer of this episode (Steven Moffat) is a name to watch out for when you start watching the 2005 series. As well as being showrunner for a time, he also wrote a number of episodes before he became showrunner (and many more as showrunner - showrunners since 2005 have always been top-class writers in their own right). Many fans consider him the best writer for the show, and for my money, this is the best episode of the current series. He also wrote this year's upcoming Christmas special. Doctor Who does not use a 'writer's room' - each story is written by a single writer (in conjunction with the showrunner) - except when the whole story is written by the showrunner.

Bit of trivia: This episode was written by previous Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, who helmed the show during the 11th and 12th Doctor's eras, and if you intend to go back and watch the 2005 series, i'd say this episode is definitely one to rewatch after you've finished those two eras, because it is absolutely chock full of references and easter eggs to them that you'll have a lot of fun noticing with prior context, in fact the episode itself generally feels like it was just lifted straight from the 12th Doctor era.

Couple of quick things... 1) the idea for this comes from a part of a 1975 4th doctor story... 2) the sky boat song which the doctor whistles to let Ruby know where he is was usually played by the 2nd doctor on the recorder.. Not going to say anything about fish fingers and custard ... 😀 While it's a good episode, i don't think it's steven moffat's best episode for the show... @@AnotherReactionChannel_ There is definitely though a difference between over the top performances and overacting which is what killed it for me. Like for example Neil Patrick Harris absolutely killed it with some over the top performance of the Toymaker but he made it work with really dialed in and controlled acting. The Maestro performance seemed like they were trying too hard. It felt unrealistic and more cheesy to my wife and I. My wife made a comment to me that it felt like watching a performer at a Halloween haunted house that is REALLYYYY trying to play the part but its so obvious they are acting that it loses its immersion. As for the entire series, yes, I like the cosplay type episode if that says anything without spoilers.

The character was planned already but largely written for Jinkx Monsoon based on an extreme character she plays in one of her shows that Russell T Davies went to see. I love this episode. Maestro is glorious. The whole season is anomalous for reasons that have not been made entirely clear, yet, and musicals numbers are not usually a thing. I would have been happier with the song and dance number if it were a better song. I had no problem with the town celebrating the return of music, like in Footloose, celebrating the return of dancing to the town. Doctor Who has always been sort of a mix of genres. You can be in some space fantasy on a foreign planet a million years in the future or in some gothic horror story in the 19th century. Your emotions will run the entire gamut.

So, without giving spoilers, the last time the Doctor defeated one of the Gods, the God's residual power remained for a short time after, and the right people could take advantage of that. My take on this ending is the Doctor did tap into Maestro's residual energy, and had 18 years of missing music to fast track. The song at the end is primarily twist, but it does also have hints of many other musical elements from those "musical wilderness" years. So my thoughts are the Doctor used that song to fast track music back to how it should have been in 1963.

This is the episode i have real issues with - mainly the dance number at the end for noreal reason (as said in other comment it's being taken as music flooding back into the world, i m less convinced). Maestro is a great villian and for me the high point of the episode. The song that annoyed Maestro will make morev sense if you've watched the church on ruby road - which i think you sad you have done now. Fo me the gags aren't working hthis season - they do usually get sprinkled in the show to balance the seriousness of most of the stories but the show can tackle just about anything comedy, drama, heartbreak, hortor, mythology but not until now (really) musicals.... There's a few easter eggs dotted around this episode - the old woman at the piano is June Hudson, the costume designer on the show during the 4th doctor era in the 70's... - playing the piano during the twist number is Murray Gold, the show's composer - and the 2024 scene echos a scene from a particular 4th doctor story about which il'll not comment further ... Loving the reactions and hope you did see Ruby Road and continue to start back from Rose in 2005...

Yes, theres a feeling that they've deliberately made the doctor lighter for the disney audience - theres an explanation but it would be a spoiler 😀 Ruby Road feels like a decent (but by no means the best) episode 1 of an era so Space Babies was a real disappointment - but having thought about it, i think they've deliberately done it for an initial win of the "typical" disney audience. This series does get more serious as we go along😀 One thing i forgot to mention is that i think that chord John & Paul play to vanquish Maestro is i think supposed to be the chord at the end of the Beatles song "A day in the life" - famously i believe the longest recorded piano chord ever. BTW have you noticed something other than the doctor/ruby/tardis that's in all 3 episodes so far by any chance😀

This season definitely starts to get more serious from the next episode onwards, but yeah in general it feels lighter in tone than the 2005 version, which had its silly moments too. Its definitely not a earth jackal and it is huge. Earth jackals are tiny. Btw if they make a sequel to this I want st least part of it to show us flasbacks. We need to see how that crazy cult made that pact with satan to summon the beast. We need to see how they went about this. Obviously the devil put his soul into it and when it was burning left.

I agree with the others that the Church on Ruby road would be a good one to watch next. You'll get the answer to the flashback sequence, and an introduction to Ruby's mum and grandma. The episode numbering is so weird. Because the Christmas special is technically outside of season 1, it's sometimes considered episode zero. Interestingly on Disney+ they changed the Church on Ruby Road from a special to Season 1 Episode 1, which really confused everyone haha. Some people consider this series 14, but Disney and the BBC are calling it season 1, then the episodes are numbered differently. 😂😂😂. Oh all of that and I forgot to say, Great Reaction!! In answer to your question and I'll try to explain without spoiling too much Ncuti Gatwa is the 15th incarnation of the Doctor and the first black actor to play the Doctor and is a Time Lord from a planet called Gallifrey as explained in the episode whenever the Doctor is killed or gets fatally injured or reaches old age his body changes which is called "regeneration" not only he changes into a new actor but also in each regeneration has a different personality as well and different tastebuds and different views likes and dislikes it's like a change in your molicules so yes each actor is different but the Doctor is still the same character and retains the same memories as the former Doctor reason for this behind-the-scenes is simply actors don't like to copy other actors performances. This show has a 60 year old history behind it there was the original series of Dr. Who now referred to as Classic Who which ran from 1963 to 1989 then a television movie in 1996 which was an attempt to bring the show back which failed then the revival in 2005-2022 now the new disney version 2023-present this episode is the third reintroduction to the Doctor and the first to introduce his new companion Ruby Sunday though they were both introduced in the previous episode "The Church on Ruby Road".

Nice reaction! Yeah, starting with Church on Ruby Road is the best entry for this Doctor. Personally, I did NOT like this episode, but I have really liked the rest of them so far. It is not spoilery to add the context that, due to some shenanigans that took place in the specials preceding this season, there are more supernatural and fairy tale elements than usual going on. The Doctor and a celestial being called the Toymaker disrupted reality and allowed myths to exist in this realm. (There usually are more aliens.) I would not recommend watching those specials as they deal with important old story lines. But that should be enough context going forward. My faves are 2005-2010 Series 1-4 plus the specials. From there, I like individual episodes from each season.

Me too. I couldn't believe it when he passed. I loved him so much in Euphoria, he was such a teddy bear.

You should definitely watch the Christmas special ‘The Church on Ruby Road’ which came right before this episode and shows how Ruby and the Doctor met. Besides that the best place to start is the 2005 reboot of the show with the 9th Doctor! The show is always changing. Not just the doctor and companion but also the writers, and directors, even the showrunners, so while there are a few meh episodes along the way, you’ll definitely be hooked by the end of the first series with the 9th Doctor and most fans agree it’s the best jumping on point :)

Oh i just checked eho the 9th doctor is and i recognize him. I might watch that one after 14 😁 i live that they change the writers also, so basically every doctor is different all the time. They dont try to keep the same personality, they are unique everytime they change the actor?

@@AnotherReactionChannel_Yeah each Doctor has their own personality but they are still the same character with the same memories so some things stay the same. The show is mostly episodic so each episode is a new story, new location / new time period, but there are also overarching stories each season.

The possession scene was my favorite part! Wish I saw more of your reaction from it because her acting was so great!

Omg yes. I wish i could have put more of my reaction on it but that copyright claim kept hitting me so i had to crop a lot of things i wanted to keep in. But i was confused as hell but she was so good doing it haha. It was freaky!! I loved how different it was from other posession in other movies.
