They are not the same plant! Info from a botanical website.

Should I start this at the end of the season when I'm about to Winter over the mother plant. I just use those cuttings from the cutback? I know these might be dumb questions but I know that this plant goes dormant. But I imagine if I'm making little greenhouses under lights for the babies they'll keep growing?

Japanese barberries (Berberis thunbergii) are invasive weeds in many US states, and Japanese maples are alo potentially invasive.

Good info! Thank you! this is a bit off topic,.. i recently read using a homemade spray of water and flour on the underside of garden veg leaves will kill spider mites. Have you tried this yourself or know of its effectiveness? I dont want to use neem oil or chemicals. Do i strain it to prevent the sprayer from clogging? Thank you

So, you also trimmed/pruned them back apparently? That would have been a great detail and how to, to add to the video.

Just what I need. I was given a plant but it has some type of mite and is suffering, but does have some good looking branches for cuttings. Hopefully the main plant survives treatment, but if I can get a few cuttings to root, I will be good either way. - Cheers
@gardenspluswithwilsey12374 ай бұрын
Go for it! This works every time. One thought - because the plant has mites I would take a magnifying glass and look very very closely at the cuttings you take to be sure they are free of mites. The magnifying glass should allow you to see them - the eggs are so tiny you may not see them otherwise. Here's a bit more info to help you spot these nasty guys: "Eggs of twospotted spider mites are laid singly on the underside of leaves. They are 0.14 mm long and become white as they age. Just before hatch, the red eyespots of the larvae are visible. Immatures: Twospotted spider mites are translucent during the larval stage, where they have six legs". Good luck and happy gardening!

I planted my gerainiums cuttings in a large tub and now I got 2 are growing big can I repot them now and keep them inside?
@gardenspluswithwilsey12377 ай бұрын
Yes but you will need a grow light to keep them growing and thriving
@gardenspluswithwilsey12377 ай бұрын
They will need at least 14 to 16 hrs a day under the grow light

How did you make out with your cuttings?
@mariannenonofyourbiznezz37156 ай бұрын
I took one cutting and put it into potting mix. It lived! It has three new leaves now. I'll be taking a few more cuttings soon.@@gardenspluswithwilsey1237

I did just cut of some growths, but like just now 😅 will this be a 100% flop? Or what time around the year you do this? (I didn’t use root hormons either, because this is the only plant i have😅)
@gardenspluswithwilsey12374 ай бұрын
If you have grow lights you can do this anytime of the year. Definitely using some sort of rooting compound will give you a better chance of success.

I had that happen to me this year. I was late getting out in the garden but when I did, I found three volunteer striped petunias that seeded themselves from last year. I took purple striped seeds from one plant last year but missed out on several others I had. Don't know how many in the past years that I've turned under by getting out there too quickly and cleaning out the beds. I will try to overwinter some this year. Thank you for your tips.

Where to u cut them and i saw a video where u leave the cutting in a cup of water but havent seen any roots yet
@gardenspluswithwilsey1237 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and thx for the question. Take the cutting either above or below a node. It doesn’t nave to be very long… 5 inches is fine . Try to take one where there is no flower yet… if there is just remove the flower. Make sure the soil is very wet, almost soggy. I’ve had a lot of success with this method. It generally takes about 3 weeks. You’ll start to see new growth. Let the soil get dry before you start to water again and remember geraniums like to dry out between watering. I have tried rooting in water but haven’t really had any success with that method either.
