LACK OF RESEARCH - SPOILS FAR TO MANY LAYOUTS TODAY !!! Some nice looking layouts. But it is becoming increasingly obvious that many layouts owners have zero comprehension of the existence of the BR Rule book when it comes to "Operation" and even less savvy about signalling and signalling rules !!! Further if your layout is to appear in public exhibitions then you can expect to get "shot down in flames" when you get it all wrong !! For example at 1:47 a Pannier tank is hauling a short freight along the mainline, with a formation that would have got the Guard a "Form 1 Charge" for dangerous operation. The reason is the first vehicle is a "Grey" van and this livery clearly indicates this vehicle has NO continuous brake (only a handbrake), so should be marshalled behind the red oxide vans. Because Red oxide indicates those vans have vacuum train brakes. The second serious problem is the last vehicle which is NOT a brakevan but a "PLOUGH" which is a vehicle used to spread ballast during P.Way possessions. Because of the grey van in the formation a Grey or Red oxide brakevan can be used, but of course the train is now deemed to be "Partly fitted", and should have the relevant headlamp code for such a train !!! What all this reveals is a serious lack of research, and I suspect that an increasing number of modellers think they can rely on the Internet for all they need. No, much of the information you need will not appear on the Internet due to increasing copyright protection law and heavy fines for those who flout said laws. So what you need is good quality railway "Reference" books, pertinent to your particular layout, or regional area. There are many specialist secondhand railway book shops (few of whom advertise on the Internet, only in Railway & model railway magazines) for these reference books, as such books are often only printed once. They can also be found on a number of Steam Railway station bookshops such as the SVR & WSR as well as Peco at their Beer, Devon shop ! And if you are to get the correct carriages & locos on your layout, especially when the layout is based on a real location. Then you also need access to ex BR internal documents such as "CWNA" (Carriage Working Notice Appendices) and of course EWN (Engine Working Notices), for the line and area you are modelling. Both of which were usually "bi-annual" publications issued in conjunction with each Summer & Winter timetable. And organisations such as the Southern email Group, have access to these old documents, which for a small fee, you can get your hands on. Also certain secondhand railway book shops. These ex BR documents will reveal exactly which carriages (including the SET & individual coach numbers & their types & formation) working on the various Regional Divisions & even specific routes. And in the case of the EWN, all the loco rosters for a specific shed, and what loco type was rostered to each specific job, which will also reveal all the light engine movements, time on shed for watering & coaling, and even when "foreign" crews were booked to use the loco for parts of the locos scheduled roster !!!

It's 'one' misplaced van, probably done on the fly at the exhibition so a bit steep to say that it spoils the layout. Some fitted vehicles had through piping to allow them to be marshalled into trains of fitted vehicles without the requirement for them to be at the back of the consist. Even then given the short nature of the train could simply be a short trip working and is perfectly acceptable to run the train as unfitted. The brake is indeed a shark van used primarily for engineering trains, but it's still a brake van and a perfectly acceptable to use one from a technical point of view. I'd bet if you researched it thoroughly you'd probably find there was isolated use of these vehicles as brake vans. TLDR; touch grass

You have to love a Dorset stopping train that misses Dorchester, the county town. I was hoping to see the view from the train, reversing into the old up platform, as I only ever travelled from Dorchester to Wareham, and saw the train come in, but was never on it. Well, I did travel from Weymouth to Wareham once, but I was no older than three, and remember no details of it. The rural setting between Wool and Wareham is really convincing. It really looks like that, every last hill and bump.
@GoldenAgeDevelopments4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The reason we didn't reverse into the platform at Dorchester is because I have not yet coded the script to reverse on command!

It gave me quite a jolt, when the train pulled into the old Poole station. I vaguely remember being there as a small boy. It wasn't that long, before the station moved down the line a little. It was smart of you to have a Swanage train in the long-gone bay platform at Wareham, next to the down platform. It was fascinating to see the junction for the Somerset and Dorset, a thing I passed by, before I was old enough to take things in properly. I do recall seeing trolley buses in Poole though. Thank you.
