My grandfather, a Greek communist, was always jealous of the “independent and autonomous” people of socialist Albania. Imagine his surprise when the border was relaxed in the 90s and thousands of skinny people with 70s clothes were fleeing to Greece to work for nothing. The beauty of Communism…
@parallax9084 Жыл бұрын
None of them were skinny. Albania achieved complete food security. And there is no such thing as 70s clothes. I dont know what you mean by that. Lastly your grandfather is a gigachad and you betrayed your heritage. The reason the people went to greece for work was because the counter revolution destroyed what socialism had built and achieved. All destroyed by capitalism. And now clowns like you claim chaos and instability caused by capitalist coup is somehow communisms fault.
@vinstatic39372 ай бұрын
@@parallax9084 Thanks for demonstrating the most stereotypical tankie lack of logic imaginable. You misinterpreted and misquoted the original comment to such an extend to fit your delusional nonsense that it's hysterical. This report of skinny people in 70s clothes literally comes from the communist grandpa you say the original commentator "betrayed the heritage of". So the guy you side with, the person who has seen these things first hand, whose words the original commentator recaps, tells a reality that goes 100% opposite to your lies. And this guy was a communist no less, so for him to reflect on these things should mean, to scum like you, that they are in fact real facts. I don't even want to engage with the rest of your comment because you're not worth the time

Yep, this was the communist propaganda was sold to the world! But as we all know there is two sided in every story! you watching one side, I lived & escaped from other side they don't tell you! I can tell you everybody was equally poor beside the communist elite's who ruled with iron fist over their people! Being born, raised in Albania & escaping the communist regime Living bring me back horrible memories that is no different that of US slavery & slave owners! When you watch videos like this it makes you think how nice communism is? But when you hear people's story stories who suffer under socialist/communist regime! The economic transformation is done from so called "Volunteers" they volunteer you to work without pay! They enslaved people to build Albania, and if you reject you are through to political prisoned!

All their educational training enabled them to build wonderful bunkers. Gooo Enver!
@user-fb9ql8bm2e Жыл бұрын
It was necessary, they were bordered by Yugoslavia which was a hostile state that tried to make Albania their puppet state in 1946-48. They attempted to structure the Albanian economy to be supplementary to, and dependent on, Yugoslavia - which destroyed relations between these countries. Albania split from the USSR because the leadership deviated from basic Marxist principles after 1956, and fully disengaged with the bloc after the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. This left them with no regional allies who could help them in case of an invasion, they were isolated. They also bordered Greece, which was a NATO country and signatory to the Western-aligned military alliance called the Balkan Pact, which also included Turkey (NATO member state) and Yugoslavia, who was not a NATO member but received military aid from the USA under this pact. Given the easily observable pattern of American anti-communist aggression, Hoxha saw to it that the Albanian proletariat had the training and the means to defend their country against imperialism. And it was not the only thing their educational training went to. Albania was a highly accomplished country, for being so internationally isolated it was not easy to build a self-sustainable economy and still provide/improve upon quality services for their people. Education and healthcare were comprehensive and free, healthcare included annual state-sponsored trips to coastal resorts for each worker. Agricultural equipment was half a century behind yet they managed to keep the shelves full with food every year, and living standards slowly but surely improved in accordance with the economic plans that Albania’s top scientists calculated and produced.

I was born in Greece in the 1980s. We leaved in a city about 1 hour away from the Albania border. The Albanians had an electric fence installed on the border to stop their people fleeing to Greece. I actually met one person who have managed to escape past that fence risking his life as guards had orders to shoot anyone who was trying to flee. So much for the Albanian socialist utopia....

What do you mean Albania wasn't poor? Store shelves were empty and people were starving, while money was being spent toward tons of concrete to build bunkers(750,000) for protection from an attack that never happened and factories on a failed attempt of the country's industrialization. The dictator built a submarine fleet, which was a luxury to even rich countries. I'll admit there was more order, but on the other hand oppression of free speech and thought was extreme. He managed to brainwash a whole people by closing them down and feeding them lies. If communism was so good, why did people want change after the dictator's death, after finding out what was happening out there and what shitty lives they were living? Stop talking nonsense

I think indeed at the time, people wanted the economy and social security of a socialist nation, but without the strict state security. However now the state security is gone but so is the economy and social system. This is a common disillusion in the former eastern block, that they where not able to keep their standard of living without political repression. I think of it as a trade of.

Den fruktar ej död och förbud o kanon. Den intar förtryckarnas förfallna bastion, Och uppmanar alla på jorden som utsugs Kom med som soldat i en Revolution!
