Occasionally, rarely, I hear one approaching at high altitude from a distance. I know the sound immediately.

I cannot be the only 47 year old man who stops dead what ever he's doing, raises his head and tilts it at an angle, ...........thought I heard something, even the dog is getting in on the action and he's now tilting his head with me .............whop.........whop,whop.........................................whop, whop,slap,.............me and the dog look at each other and give a knowing nod and then drop what ever we were doing and rush outside.............and wait for those beautiful thuds to turn into thunderous slaps as a CHINOOK flies over our garden..........of course you and the dog look at each other with a knowing grin......................the women in the house just don't get it like us chief says the dogs face, I nod my head and we stand there long after that big beautiful girl as flown out of sight ............listening to it fade.....did I just imagine that last distant slap or was it a ..................no, I look at my dog and we both walk inside to finish our chow.......till next time Big Girl xxxxxxxxxxxXXXXXX.

My brother is raf I often stay on his base with my family and the commen site. But when I'm at home and one flys over I'm strait outside looking for it. Beautiful site.
