I did this same drone flight about three weeks ago myself. Nice calm area. Got video of the kids fishing and the damn site.

I have been there in the kids- teens section. It was a surreal experience ror sure because I had bad anxiety. My dad was a push over and my step mom made no attempt to hide her disdain for me with constant arguments about what to do with me and my brother that did not involve paying child support to my mom to have us. I had hurt myself because physical pain was more tolerable then the emotional and I felt like I deserved the hate and I did not belong in my mind. I had an officer take me there and the first night I was throwing up. They gave me a shot in my bum. There was an isolation room that one boy was always sent to for being disorderly. Most kids had anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, or behavior issues tied to their home instability. I kinda remember it being a huge "L" shape design. One hall for boys, one hall for girls and meet at the corner for a shared room for talk. Then I think Bob Barker had something to do with our tolietry supplies.

Thank you for sharing some of your story and giving us a peek inside that place. It sounds like an incredibly tough time, and your openness helps us understand what you went through. Hopefully things got better for you.

@@Thatsouradventure in some ways yes because I definitely appreciated being an adult and having more control of my life. My kids are complicated weirdos and the complete opposite of me in the best ways. I think that experience prepared me for parenthood knowing how I would prefer to be treated and that building their confidence is important.

Though today I am bringing my own daughter to an institution for a few days for being suicidal 😥. I am trying to be optimistic as she wants it for herself and has a goal with getting help. She has a lot of physical and social challenges that she wants to overcome and come to terms with.

I took some photos a couple years back inside the portion that recently burned down. It was a beautiful structure. I’ve also managed to find some old photos of the mill in operation.

Yeah, it still retains its haunting beauty despite being dangerous, with the roof collapsing in multiple locations. I spent a few hours capturing photos inside the main building, as well as the creepy basement. We'll be compiling a new follow-up video with additional footage that we couldn't capture during our last visit. Thanks for watching, Charles!

Love your video, what drone did you use, and what software do you use to edit? Were you able to get close to buildings, or was the drone the best option? We got there at night and security said we had to be back at the road. 😔
@Thatsouradventure8 ай бұрын
Thank you! We used our DJI Mini 2 for this video, and a combination of Vegas Pro for editing and Premiere Pro for the final touches. Upon arrival, the security guard shared several harrowing stories of people getting trapped inside the buildings. Back then, there weren't as many fences to keep people out, but given the deteriorating building conditions, it's understandable. We did take a peek inside a few of the buildings, but most of our exploration was done through the lens of the drone. If you revisit the area, please let us know how things went!

My Dad grew up in Milledgeville. My Grandmother worked there. My Dad had a few stories to tell me, none were pleasent. Seeing it made me sad and sick at my stomach.

I can imagine those stories were difficult to hear. The atmosphere of this location is tangible when you're there. As much as I value preserving history, a part of me eagerly awaits the closure of this site.
