Cole. What about Charlie Haden as i recall, he played high on the bass as well as upper partials/extensions. Particularly, also with OC. Trying to re-establish my chops on a wide variety of instruments following surgeries, after contracting C-19 and all of its mutations Curling , playing hockey lacrosse futbol rugby and gigging. Cheers for a great vid! The Spewtoob algo-jizmz, are obviously spying on us all. makes me wanna ditch all my Didg$hit-iLL de-Vice$!

I think there's a basic misunderstanding here. Solfege is there to help you learn to read the music. It's just a tool... and a handy one. Once you can read the music then you can learn the tune. Also solfege is not necessarily associated with an absolute pitch. And it's more associated with intervals. Many singings that utilize solfege will use a "pitch of convenience", which is somewhat arbitrary and relative to the voice of the people singing. A good example of this would be.... as you suggest..... singing happy birthday. Nobody pulls out a pitch pipe. You just take your pitch from the person that started the singing. That's a pitch of convenience.

Nice Gary Peacock and Charlie Haden vibes here in the vibrato (I know he's one of your favorites). Will try this more in jazz, I had to do it a lot when playing classical but you really have to have a strong left hand to keep control!

What we used to use years ago was a product called "Newskin". It's used to cover cuts, and puts a protective, flexible "skin" over the callous, which is easy to peel off when no longer needed. It's also great for making fake scars for Halloween. :-)

Hey there this was super informative. I went to Lawrence University and studied under a great bass player but still struggle with thumb position agility. This builds off everything I learned and gets me excited to practice some thumb position and solo more up there! Thank you!

Great video , I do a couple of play alongside on my bass on my channel with some Bill Evans .records . But this is his bass , another level . Glad you got to practice on it . What’s the action like ? In the 90s having a low action was frowned on in London. But those same people always idolised Scott La Faro . I was always thinking the action on this bass was low . Then later people like Miroslav Vitous was using strings ADGC tuned EADG

Do you have the fingering for your version of Confirmation? (and other bebop tunes) in this method? Also what strings and string action you use? Seems you need a very low action.

Good stuff. Serato Sample can pull out drums/bass etc. from recordings. It would be a cool idea to rip drums out of anything classic and do this practice.

Good stuff! Might you have some thought(s) on helping prevent the little finger on my left hand from locking up. My issue seems to be specifically with the middle joint locking in a straight position. I have found that focusing on bending the thumb at both joints helps maintain more curvature in the little finger, however it makes it more challenging to bar two strings with the pinky. I feel the focus must be on maintaining curvature in the left hand. It seems likely that I am missing some key point.

With a ballad, I try to always think "pulse". A ballad can be like a resting heart rate and the breath flows on top.

I think maybe "interactive" is a bit of wordplay...like active in the inner parts, perhaps? I don't know. I'm thinking of lots of the old jazz album titles.
