O. M. G. You used honey, but think this is sugar free? Honey is 17% water, about 3% other ingredients and 80% sugar, with about half being glucose and half fructose, with small amounts of sucrose, maltose and dextrose. So these are by no means "safe for diabetics".
@spicecandies16 күн бұрын
Good point but: a. It says honey on the box so the user knows the contents and can prepare. B. the sugar in honey is fructose - half as bad as sucrose. Metabolizes faster. But yes, you are right - a d this is the only exception for this candy series. You can do without the honey candy. :)
@kilroy251716 күн бұрын
@@spicecandies Sucrose is a disaccharide consisting of one glucose and one fructose bonded together, and that bond is split apart by the sucrase enzyme in the small intestine (though that breakdown actually starts in your mouth as your saliva contains sucrase too). Glucose is the body's fuel source, and it's absorbed into your bloodstream very quickly when it enters your small intestine. Glucose IS blood sugar. Fructose is converted into glucose by your liver, so it raises blood sugar very slowly, but lasts longer. So if you use 100 grams of honey, you're using about 40g of glucose and 40g of fructose which is the same as having used 80 g of sucrose, but without that added step of it having to be be split apart. There are health benefits to eating honey, but it's not from the sugars in it. Please don't market these candies as safe for diabetics. They're not.

I do not understand why you would have to sweeten honey candy at all, with anything. Couldn't you use just pure honey?
@spicecandies2 ай бұрын
Awesome question. The answer is yes and no. If you have a 600k Euro lyophilizer you can. If you have a regular kitchen as I do, you can't. Middle way answer: honey's main sugar is fructose. You can make some fructose-honey candies, in theory.

This is amazing and exciting! I really appreciate all the effort you are putting into this. I have never seen a steamer pot like the one you used. I agree, the candy must have sugar. The one my grandfather bought was a huge chunk of rock that we hammered off a small piece to suck on. It was not like modern licorice which is too much sugar and chewy. It was a very hard candy. It was almost bitter, lots of flavor but definitely had sugar in it. Thank you so much.

Well.. I will try a sweetener but I'm also looking for a small pump that can be a compressor and a vacuum generator. This will allow me to find a stainless tubing that will hook onto the cooking device and add air while I cook on very low heat. Hopefully that will do the trick! :)

To aerate the liquid perhaps use a blender or mixer. Not sure how much you'd need to do it for, even a whisk may work if you do it long enough but may not be worth the effort.
@spicecandies2 ай бұрын
I fully agree Stephen! Good one! I just think I need to do that while it's cooking. Just litting it sit and react with air by mixing I fear will not do the trick. But I shall give it a go!!! :) I'll whisk it rapidly and see how it goes.

Can lemon candies help me quit smoking? I’m planning on taking up skateboarding. Been a smoker long enough. 1 1/2 packs per day. Marlboro red. Sometimes menthols. Began smoking since 5th grade. Hiding in our attic. I intend to excel in the sport. Bought a new skateboard today and i’m trying to learn ollying. But I’m easily short of breath even after just a few jumps. I’m 33 but I’m not giving up learning something new and being good in it. Could it be my smoking?
