Thanks for posting this. Trying to repair our churches. The D501 and D516 show a burn brown hue on all three 27v PS. Fault is bottom speakes and bass is inoperable. The top speakers work but clip at medium volumes.
@techtips983Ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the comment. As shown in the video, a discolored component may or may not indicate it is faulty. You haven't said whether you are equipped or knowledgeable about testing and troubleshooting. If not, you may want to take the system to a qualified technician. Usually with a diode you can use a multimeter to check the forward and reverse characteristic of the diode (although this wasn't conclusive in my video). Still, with power off, you could start by checking the D501 diodes. Since you have some output on the top speakers you must have some power supply voltage to the associated amplifier module. The best way forward would be to, first check the actual voltages of the power supplies. You should have over 300 volts coming from the PSI Power Stand board. That goes to the auxiliary power supply board as well as the 27volt power supply modules. (Be careful checking this as it is dangerous voltage.) If you have the 300V+ you should then check the output voltages on the three 27volt supplies. Also, check for the 24V, +15V, -15V, 5V and 3.3V outputs from the auxiliary board. If you have all those voltages the issue may be with the power amplifier modules. If not, you will have to troubleshooting the area where the incorrect voltages are coming from. I probably can't help much with more information. You can email me at [email protected] if you have more questions.

Awesome job! Many thanks for sharing..Is this problem across the board for all Touchmix 30's?
@techtips983Ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the comment. I could say for sure whether the problem is across the board, but I have had several people contact me looking for information, so I guess it is common, and similar for the 16. The lack of a cooling fan may be significant as it doesn't get pretty warm on parts of the board.

@techtips983Ай бұрын
Sorry I'm so slow responding to you. I'd suggest you start by making sure you have DC voltage from the power supplies. If you have a voltmeter make sure you have +15VDC across C39, -15VDC across C311, and +5 VDC across C315. If any of these are missing, check the voltage going into the related regulator (Q31, Q311, and U1 respectively). If you have the proper power supply voltages you will have to troubleshoot the audio stages, which I can't go into here. I'd be interested to know whether you have it working yet, and what you found... Thanks for the comment.

Hello, what was the result of the repair? I have a Bose with exactly the same problem, I already changed the diode but the system still does not activate, perl strangely there is 8 volts in the vcc of the 2843 and I think it should be 12v
@techtips9833 ай бұрын
Hi Dan. You have probably already watched Part 2 of this repair, but if not there is additional info there. I'm going by memory here but I read something that suggested IC601 (UC2843) will activate with 7 or 8 volts (which is divided down from the main V+), but you won't get the full 12 volts until you have the output side of the switching regulator working correctly. So I think the 8 volts is ok. But probably the switching circuitry is not working. You didn't say which diode you changed. Was it D601 (the one that was discolored in the one I worked on)? I also found D607 shorted, and I also changed out Q601. If you haven't already done so, I would suggest you use a multimeter to check all the diodes on that board. If that doesn't turn up anything you should probably change out Q601 and possibly IC601. I'm not sure what to suggest from there. I don't know your knowledge/experience level with this type of work but I always suspect: bad connections, electrolytic capacitors (especially if they are old), semiconductors, and any other components that dissipate significant power. Unfortunately, troubleshooting these switching power supplies is difficult because of the feedback loop involved. If you have other questions or need a schematic email me at [email protected]
@danruiz9023 ай бұрын
@@techtips983 Thank you teacher, indeed the d601 was defective, it was not shorted but rather it marked 400 ohms on both sides as if it were bidirectional, I changed it and started the power supply. thank you for your valuable help😁

Thanks for the nice video. I always have a Bose PS1 for repair and I have a little question. Did the amplifier works without the speaker or is it necessary for switching on the amplifier?
@techtips9835 ай бұрын
Sorry I'm slow responding. The power supply / amplifier can be powered up without connecting the speaker. I did that while troubleshooting the power supplies. This brings up a common question, though, as to whether you can damage an amplifier by powering it up without having the speaker connected. As I understand it solid state amps can be powered up without connecting a speaker. Tube amps (which I don't know as much about) are different, however. I did a bit of research and some people say no load on the output transformer can result in damage to the output tubes. I'm not an expert on this so you might want to do further research... Thanks for the comment.

Hi there, Andy from the UK, I do them at work for a living, can be a daunting task, there are some models i really dont like working on, some are easy some not, great fix by the way, but i did notice when you replaced the one faulty strip, when you tested the previous working two full arrays, a couple of leds didnt light up instantly like the rest, so maybe the same problem will occure in a short time, it is a time consuming process and one mistake with the lcd panel is game over, its happened to me a couple of times either cracking the panel or causing a problem with static on the buffer panels so you end up with no raster, old talk lol, but let us know if it stayed working, many thanks Andy UK

How many speakers were in those cabinets?
@techtips9839 ай бұрын
Just a follow up comment about this project...About six months after I finished this repair, I got a call from the church where this speaker is used. They said the speaker had suddenly started distorting. I happened to be nearby and dropped around to test it in-situ. Sure enough, the speaker was distorting. I took it back to my shop and checked it out and found that the driver (speaker) that I had replaced was the culprit. I did a test of the cone movement by carefully depressing the cone with a thumb on either side of the voice coil. I could hear, and feel, the voice coil rubbing on the magnet. Something had changed in the geometry of the cone and coil. I checked the other drivers and they all moved smoothly. When signal was applied to the faulty speaker, the rubbing against the magnet caused distortion. I contacted Bose and they are sending out a new driver. This is something I've never seen before, and the Bose tech said it was very unusual as well. I have no idea what caused this. If you have ideas, let me know. I haven't received the driver yet but will update this when I have it installed...

@techtips9839 ай бұрын
Thanks! The crossovers are somewhat hard to get at. As I mentioned in the video, the wiring inside the cabinet is solid core so you have to be a bit careful that you don't bend it too many times or it will break off. There is a lot of foam inside the cabinet to move around to get at the crossover as well.

Good stuff. I've heard that lubing the T-shaped groove (eg, white lithium grease) can help pull and feed the gasket all the way if you're doing it alone. One concern I'd have in your case would be rot getting at your wooden shims because of rain, snow, or ice. Covering the shims with a good coat of exterior paint could perhaps extend the life of your entire system.
@techtips98310 ай бұрын
Thanks. I hadn't thought of using lithium grease but that would probably have made the job much easier. The wooden shims were made using treated wood, which will probably help, but your suggestion of exterior paint sounds like a good idea. If I can get to that before winter I'll probably do that...
