Why not just paint it on the paper to start with. Am I missing something?
@bluelavaart
@bluelavaart 13 күн бұрын
Good point. The monotype process with a gelli plate allows you to paint UNDER the photo. It gives a different texture and feel to it. It is also quite textural, unlike a xerox copy. Plus it is on thicker paper, bristo,l that can handle acrylic paint layers better than regular printer paper that buckles and wrinkles when painted. I hope that helps explain the process for you. Let me know if you have any other questions

This is a mixed media piece that incorporates elements of photography, printing and painting if I'm not mistaken. Art isn't limited to "purist" drawing and painting. Collages, installations, etc. exist, too! :)

I don't always get good transfers. When that happens, I try to adjust 1 thing at a time to see if it improves. More paint, less paint, edit the photo differently etc. Keep at it as it can be frustrating at times. I have some longer tutorials that might help. :)

A glue book is good to have. An old book, magazine, etc. You glue your pieces on top of a page, then turn the page and have a fresh one for the next gluing. Plus there's no chance of getting glue on the "good" side of the piece you're gluing, since you're using a fresh page each time. I couldn't live without it.

Thanks! It is the mineral oil in the plate. If you lay a thin layer of gel medium down after the image transfer but before you start the reverse painting, and let it dry, that should help

Have you tried using an inkjet printer with your settings?

Laser Printers use toner that has plastic bits in it. That’s what repels the paint. The ink in ink jet just lets the acrylic paint soak in.

Love your Gelli work Jessica and thank you for all the video inspiration and your wonderful teaching skills! I hoped I could do it all at home but I struggled with using my Brother Laser black and white printer even with following your great Photo Shop directions and printing twice, it never worked for me. So, I change courses and had my prints made at Office Depot. (I am in the US).They have different choices of paper weights so I already know that their 28lb paper prints works fabulously, I have been able to make successful transfers at last! I'll try their 24lb paper next time. Getting prints made at OD is pretty cheap compared to replacing my printer cartridge. Also, I just tried doing a second transfer and it turned out even better than the first one! Such a great tip, I never would have thought to do that. I got that from one of your posts or comments. This is so fun...now onto the painting!
