13?? I freaking wish!!! I did 131 evaluations this year along with counseling and psych services caseload at 2 different elementary schools. It was my first year and I feel kind of ready to leave. Left that district and hoping my new district this upcoming year is much better or I will be completely leaving this field

So happy to see another video from you! Out of curiosity, are you on contract(s) with schools for your virtual services or do you have your own school psych business? I also have ADHD so I would love love love to learn more about virtual services! I am currently in the daunting process of applying to grad schools for school psych.

when you say you are a "virtual school psychologist" what does that exactly mean?

Hello! So I essentially am a telehealth provider , I work from home and provide services online (including evaluations, consultation, meetings, observations, mental health support, crisis support, etc)
@AmandaEdS
@AmandaEdS Ай бұрын
@@etamommy nope, I use software that has been tested and shown to be effective to not impact outcomes when given virtually and with an in person proctor who is trained and facilitates materials

@@AmandaEdS Thanks for the reply Amanda. I am in the field and that is fascinating! Give yourself a pat on the back for being able to do such assessments in that fashion. That sounds tricky to me but during impacts of Covid -19 and distance learning we did some similar things. For initial assessments though we sometimes needed to gather some information in person and so some delays were necessary on those until parents were able to bring students in often masked to do one to one in person assessment.
@AmandaEdS
@AmandaEdS Ай бұрын
@@etamommy yes definitely! I would said there are many arguments to be made and I also was confused when I first started but now I see how effective it CAN be when done right and with fidelity. I think the best power of telehealth practice is being able to provide services to rural districts who are unable to retain in person psychologist - so students are going without a lot of much needed support

This is the second time I have watched this video and I wanted to say it has been super helpful. Vlog style videos for this purpose are best and you explained things well (for someone with a Bachelors level in psych looking to continue to a Masters level). I will probably end up watching this again if I do not pick a career path soon. THANK YOU. <3

Hello Amanda! Wow, thank you so much for this SUPER informative video! I am a mature student who, in spite of receiving praise from instructors when I actually did the work, I also bounced around into a few different majors since I moved to the US at 23 years-old from Brazil, where I was a psych major. The result: after 25 long years of experimenting without much support, I was finally diagnosed with pretty severe ADHD (and very possibly anxiety as well). I finally decided a couple years ago to come back to psychology and had neuropsychology as my main end goal (get the ADHD hint here, of an almost 50-yr-old considering applying for a program she has absolutely no experience in?). I took the courage to meet with a professor in school who was so careful not to discourage me, yet was skillful enough to suggest other options that won’t take 15 years of training (which would get me to my 60s when I am finally licensed) and we came up together to the field of school psychology. I will continue looking into it but I would just like to thank you again for taking the time to share your experience, and I hope that other great videos were made since this first one (I believe you made this last year) ❤ - Best, Gigi.

I know its different everywhere, but how does summer work for you? Do you still get paid, or do you have to find a side gig?
@AmandaEdS
@AmandaEdS Жыл бұрын
Great question! So in typical public school districts they spread your pay over the whole year so there is no laps in pay or health insurance. I think maybe some districts you can choose if you want it that way. Now that I am contracted I do not get paid over summer, so I intentionally save for summer expenses which is tricky sometimes but also get paid so much more that it feels worth it

I have the same issues around report writing and someone told me something that I TRY to remember but it is still an issue for me. That person said, “It’s better to have a pretty good FINISHED report that to have perfect reports in-process/overdue.”

Incoming intern here! I completely agree about reports being a complex situation to deal with. I’m definitely the most worried about taking the leap into writing all the reports necessary and wondering if they’ll be good enough. Grad school can’t prepare you enough for the real world! Do you have any tips for new/ intern school psys for their report writing and making it detailed enough yet still digestible?

Thank you for coming back 😀!! I am in the process of completing my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology👏🏻 from Arizona State University. I am inspiring to become the best school psychologist ever. Can you make a video where you give your personal past experience or what do you recommend for students who have the plan to getting into Grad school. I have really wasted to shadow or assist a SPsych. Or a pediatric Psychologist who has their own practice yet I don’t know where to start. Many school districts don’t allow outsiders to be at school but what could be some ways that we could get a feel of this beautiful field. Thank you! Greetings from sunny SD, CA

Hi everyone, hoping for some insight. I am a first-year student in a School Psychology program and am going back and forth on if this is the right path for me…. I want to work with kids but IQ testing (WISC, etc) does not interest me much, and I’ve heard that’s what I will be doing most of the time. I'm way more interested in the counseling side of things, which makes me think I should pursue an MSW instead… any insight on this would help me bunches, I’m so torn because I love my cohort and professors but I’m not big on cognitive assessments! Help!
