The eagle belt plate was worn by the principal musician, all others wore the US belt plate. The drum major( PM), had sergeant major stripes with a star in the middle of the chevron field.

Patrick Cooperman makes the best rope tension calfskin drums for reenactors no matter whatwar was portrayed. Flam tap, Paradiddle, Ratamacue great Musick Yanks.

Their slouch hats have crossed rifles, not period to the civil war. Frock coats look perfect for early war impression, usually with birdcage piping on the breast area of each coat. After that drummers and fifers wore sack coats like the regular infantryman.

I started this at 12, now at 70 I can say fife and drumming has taken me to Europe, all over states. All trips were free to me, we were members of the Company of fifers and drummers based in Conn.
