Shipmate, you just made this old retired chief Very happy! I took the seats and carpet out of my 2003 Dakota, got them back in and shifter would not move out of park. Looking under the drives side dash I see that BTSI hanging by a zip tie! One side of it had the clip broken off, guess the zip tie held it until I must have bumped it removing carpet. Tried putting it back on, no joy...went to junkyard and got one off same year truck, installed, no joy...You are the !st person that had a clue about how the BTSI actually operated! I was on phone with Just Ask and he had me trying to read wires on some other solenoid and I came across this vid of yours...I already had the cable out ( tried to repalce twice, never could get the correct cable!) Once you explained how it operated I plugged the connector into the BTSI in my hand, turned key on, pressed brake and that little pin retracted! I Knew then I had it. When I ordered new shifter cable it came with a plastic "pin" that keeps the BTSI in alignment, it is the last thing you are supposed to doAfter installing new cable..I never knew exactly why but your 3 yr old video was perfect! Now, my only question is, WHy didnt I see this a month ago! 🤣🤣 BZ ! And Thank You!

Also, is it just me, or is it a real pain getting the imager to line up right 😂 I ended up rotating the whole telescope tube to point the focuser at the floor, then i made a mount using bungie cords and the ZnSe lens holder with some hardened EVA foam shaped to mate with the imager. After that point, i use the phone app to target and life is a lot easier 😅

Oh my gosh, that's awesome!! As far as your question, I am only using one lens up near the thermal imager 🙏🙏 I do have some issues with longer focal lengths because I start seeing the telescope tube in the shot, too short of an fl and I lose contrast and quality. I didn't realize you were using the TM25! I really wanted to get that one, but as I kept experimenting I found that the aperature of the thermal also has an impact on the quality and image edge sharpness/wide FOV. Since yours is already zoomed in some (2.5X), and has a wider aperature, you might have the best possible setup with the 38mm already. Have you tried out the 2" FL lenses yet? I think there are also larger diameter ZnSe lenses available if you have sharpness issues. Thank you for making the video, I think it's awesome!

So I'm Installing a 5.9 magnum into my 87 d150 ..use to be a slant with a 904 ....I'm going to get a 727 from the scrapyard.....so as long as I have the magnum flexplate ..and I find a old 727 with a converter that dosnt have any weights on it ...I should be good to go right ?
@call_me_dangerАй бұрын
The pre 91-92is flex plates have a different bolt pattern for the converter than the magnum series. One version has the 4 bolts equally spaced and the converter can be bolted to the flex plate in any orientation, the other had one of the bolts slightly out of position so that the converter could only bolt on in one orientation. It has been a decade or 2 since I have personally dealt with it so you may want to search the forums or call a transmission shop to verify

Or it may be best to just use a 46re/rh that is made to work on the magnum engine. It is basically a 727 with overdrive

Great project ! What is your imager you want to use with this scope ? is it equipped with a removable lens ? if not, you would normally need only one extra lens to be used with your imager. If you wish to have a great magnification, yo may use as a first lens in the Barlow's body (from the scope to your imager), one with a shorter focal length than the one already belonging to your thermal imager. You will create by this combination (one of your ZnSe lens or Ge lens + the genuine objective from your imager) a "relay lens" having a magnification factor >1 (the factor will be directly related to the ratio "focal lens of your imager's lens/focal lens of your Znse or Ge Lens). With such configuration, you have to work in afocal mode. Good luck!

@thenightvisionlab the problem is that with just one lens, I can’t get a clear picture at all. When using 2 I can get a decent picture. I have about 5 or 6 different focal length lenses from about 1.5” to 5”ish. But not sure which lenses are which focal lengths lol. I will have to buy another set and keep them in their original boxes. The thermal scope I am using does have a focus able lens but it cannot be removed to use as a prime focus setup. I do have another thermal imager that has no lens and I have used it as a prime focus setup but the picture is really really bad.

Actually looks like youre having some success! Question, are you using a ZnSe telescope only (beam expander type setup) or are you using a reflector type telescope? The primary aperature(primary mirror, or larger incoming ZnSe lens of telescope) of the telescope has a MAJOR impact of clarity and resolution. Zoom with thermal requires much larger diameters than optical due to it's long wavelength if you want good resolution and contrast.

Hey Jacob why did you take it out and how much time did you have the tritium vial implanted? Biohacker to biohacker question 🤔
@call_me_danger2 ай бұрын
I took it out because it was a bit longer than practical for that location. It would really poke up when I closed my hand, and being a mechanic, I was afraid it was going to get broken. I had it in for about 6 months. Not really sure how much,if any radiation was absorbed from it. When searching the forums I found about 50/50 mix of, “it is harmless” to “it will poison you” lol. So I cannot recommend it one way or the other.
@gdn2462 ай бұрын
@@call_me_danger Thanks for the answer! Yeah not really dangerous, I'm not a nuclear physicist but basically tritium just emits beta radiation (electrons) which doesn't make it through the glass and is almost completely absorbed by the phosphor coating that shines. The thing biohackers worry about is Bremsstrahlung radiation (literally "braking radiation" in German) which is product of the electrons' inertia when suddenly collapsing emitting X-rays continuously. The thing I've seen with some biohacker friends is that this Xray radiation is so little anyways (less than taking a normal 5 hour plane trip IN A YEAR or having an xray in your hand once per 2 3 years, they did calculations of the dose). The MAIN REAL ISSUE is breaking the vial and releasing the toxic phosphor (zinc sulfide with green for example). Anyways this wouldn't really do much harm if immediately extracted most of the pieces. Again thanks for the answer Jacob on this old video. Just dropping this comment here for anyone interested. -- One last question though that we couldn't figure out when we found your video: how did you sterilize the tritium vial and injector? We assume it was a normal vial without any encapsulation or did you modify it? ***

Man... I found a lone electrical solenoid in my Dak oh I guess going on 5 yrs ago now. I rebuilt the tranny a couple of yrs before and since then the park adjustment was always a little off. Well I just had to pull it and replace the frt pump bushing so I am getting it all back in and went to adjust the park cable. I pulled the dash cover down and a metal button came out on the floor. Looking further I see the plastic housing parts that had split apart. Turns out it was the remnants of this switch. Thank you for solving that solenoid mystery. Honestly I never noticed it cause I grew up with a stick shift '78 blazer. I always handle the brake for starting and shifting... I am probably not going to replace mine.

The mygig radio on the far right came out of 08-11 Dakota and various other mopars from 08-18ish. There are about 6ish different models of the mygig that come in 2 different bus versions, a low speed bus and high speed bus version. So there are around a dozen different versions you will come across that look nearly identical. and only one of them is capable of being used in non canbus situations. And even with that one specific model, you still need specifically modify the wiring to make it work.
