Hey there! I'm planning a cycling trip to Norway from Italy in less than a month, and I'm looking for ways to rest along the way. In Denmark, I used the "SHELTER" app to find campsites. Also, how many mile/KMS a day were you cycling?
@yvettekooijman
@yvettekooijman 6 күн бұрын
Nice! The shelter app is very useful, we used it a lot. Also couchsurfing, ioverlander, and warmshowers. If you didn't already know about these. We cycled about 70 km a day, but of course this all depended on many things. Enjoy your trip!

@@yvettekooijman Thank you, and yes I know and I find them very unreliable these days. 70km, interesting. I normally cover 140-60km when I am on my own, but I need to understand better because I am trying to convince my girlfriend that touring is great. We have done Scotland, the Faro Islands, and Iceland but she is not convinced yet. lol

Greetings from Norway!The West Coast is famous for its unpredictable weather. ...Something countless people before you have also experienced. It's not personal. It's Norway. A helpful fact: You can camp in nearly any natural setting in Norway for an evening without permission. So long as you're not directly on someone's lawn, etc. There are extremely generous public land-use laws here in Norway. So, next time, just pitch your tent!

just watched your docu/movie about your hiking journey across the Kungsleden, wowwowwow... i so very much absolutely enjoyed watching your hiking adventure, so beautifully filmed!! I hiked part of it 14 years ago and am very much looking forward to hike it again but this time from beginning to end, though it will be autumn 2025 as this autumn i'm planning to go for three weeks to Scotland hiking a couple of different trails in Glenn Affric, the Knoydart and Skye after haven't hiked for a very long time. But i must say that watching your adventure really wakened the desire in me to hike the Kungsleden again. I'm impressed by how you put all the drone filming and other filming together to such a great video, absolútely stúnning!! I've watched quite a lot of hiking video's already but yours is really good and very inspiring to watch! I'm very interested and curious though how you organised the food parcel matter though, as that is something i will have to work out how to do that and when/how to get the parcels at specific destinations along the trail. Sorry for my long response but here's a very enthusiastic dutchman. And i absolutely agree, if the weather coöperates, the autumn colors in the far north of Sweden are so immensely beautiful, there's no question about that (seeing the northern lights though would be absolutely stunning.... hopefully i will be able by then - fingers crossed). Thumbs up for this magnificient video!!!

Hello from Australia last July my wife and I cycled from Belgium to Bretany in France, we had the same ups and downs as you 2. it rained for a whole week...but we kept going and now remember our trip fondly...I was thinking of Norway for our next trip, that's how I found your video, thank you it gives some idea what to expect...We loved France, but their are too many people...

How nice! Cycling in Norway is amazing, and wayyy more quiet than France. We were very unlucky with the weather that year, so it might be less rainy than we had in these videos. Norway is absolutely worth it!

Looks like a great video and adventure but it is not in English language for the little I got to see...I am sorry but the subtitles are not enough to compelled me to see your videos. I wish you would make them in English. The cinematography is excellent and the narrative looks great as well. I hope you post videos in the future in English without the subtitles.

Hi Dutch bold cyclists. Thanks for visiting our beautiful country. Being an eager 4-seasons touring cyclist myself, I absolutely agree that the summer weather in Norway is both unpredictable and at times brutal. But that is simply the way it is, so there is no reason to get depressed. Instead, enjoy it by getting prepared. Forget normal cycling clothes (which all seem to be designed for Italian and Spanish conditions). I recommend wool all over with a windtight shell, thick woolen socks in proper boots, wollen mittens with windtight cover etc. Yes, you will be wet all over sooner or later, but not unconfortable. In the morning, replace your (wollen) pyjamas with wet clothes and keep on cycling. This is essential, otherwise the next night is likely to be quite unconfortable. If possible, chose your wild-camping so that the first hour in the morning involves a steep hill. This will ensure a sound core temperature even if wet. I have lots of other advice on thr subject of clothing, please get in touch if you would like me to share them.

Steep hills and no option of camping is similar in Switzerland, where there are so many private owned lands that it can be hard to even find a place to rest when everything is fenced.

I really appreciate you guys. Thanks for putting this video together and sharing your feelings. I don't think you are being fair to yourselves. No one can control the weather. For you to undertake these adventures is commendable enough. Some people never have the chance. Think about all the views of the countryside whether raining or not that you can share with the world. That to me is impressive. I am glad you made this video.

I am from Norway and grew up with fjords and mountains, and some bad weather 🙂The feelings you are sharing is easy to recognize when it's cold and rains non stop. That's part of the package and some days are just like that. When it comes to the tent/camping pitch I find Google Maps and street view very useful. But for me personal I prefer to cycle on the evenings and just find a spot to sleep and continue the next morning. My main focus is the cycling, the people I meet and the the experiences during the day. In Norway you don't have the "trespassing problem", so as long as you ask or find a place some distance away from the farms/houses it will normally be fine. If the weather is very bad, a football stadium, bus shelter, train station, garage etc etc can be nice. Just to have a roof over your head. If somebody is coming and telling you that this is private or not ok, just apologize and explain that it was a swift decision last night because of the weather and that you will continue the journey now, and all the people I have met will say it's fine/ok. Just don't abuse it, be polite, use common sense etc. Another thing that I find strange is the amount of stuff, the heavy bikes etc many of the people who come from more central Europe use. 25-30 kg is almost double what I think is ok. On a light endurance type road bike with minimal luggage, the climbs will be so much easier and a great experience instead of a struggle. That type of bike will also run a lot faster on the flats and are a joy to descent with. These are just my experiences and opinion, people do things their own way and that's fine. Just wanted to share some input. Norway is perfect for bikepacking but the weather can be a tuff one 🙂

Your pacing in the video is very nice. It feels relaxing -- just like a bike tour. Beautiful, beautiful country. The farmer at the beginning had an amazing back yard. Also, it's okay to not enjoy wet or cold or nasty weather. That's when I dive for motels.

I just biked Norway from north cape to Lindesnes in 20 days, and during that time, most days were 11-16 degrees, and around 4-5 days of rain, and a bunch cloudy and somewhat wet. But over half ok weather. It was in August and I would wish for a little better weather. The rainy days were very tough and cold. We only did 3 days in tent, all in good weather. The rest camping huts to around 500-700kr per night (split on two people, so 250-350ish each) most nights.

Totally enjoyed the video. Once you have experienced the "Fjällen" or the mountains they never leave you. There will always be a pull, an desire to return. The views, the quiet and the stillness. But the nature is never quiet, just a different pallet of sounds compared to our urban city life.

Herkenbaar verhaal.
