Great advice dude. Especially #5. I have always felt that, make it fun by either learning a riff or a song and you will gradually learn to play guitar.

Try songs that are challenging! The harder the song, the more you level up when you master it!

WOW, especially the 1st one! Yousician and SimplyPiano/Guitar their business model REQUIRES it to make you feel "you are into something, but guarantee you never truly learnt it!" -- If just after several sessions you found yourself can play independently, then who the hell they sell their software to??? I made the mistake but especially with the SimplyPiano, it's great when you are 0, they give you instructions, and all those accompanies, especially the accompanies, they make you sound great immediately and making you feel "well it's not too hard at all! see I'm already playing and it sounds awesome!". However, the moment when I tried to play something without the APP, I found I was in huge trouble. I can't play even the simplest stuff. The worst part, you WILL forget to cancel the subscription, and there're actually 2 prices there, one is when you directly sub for 1yr or something, that's something reasonable. The other one is the "auto sub" after the trial, it's very EXPENSIVE! You thought you are just in the reasonable price model, while in the truth you are being skimmed by those MFs. I'm in the software engineering so I guess I know how the developers are thinking. During that time I think financially I'm just too rich to notice this in my credit card bill, they STEAL hundreds of $$$ from me... Back to the topic, I think there's actually nothing you can do to make the process shorter/easier. A lot of good players developed the basic neural-muscular links and skills when they were very young. And they FORGOT IT !!! It's a slow grind, and as a kid you have all the time in the world. You can have your guitar as a birthday present maybe at 4th grade and played it on-and-off through 5th grade and 7th grade. When you are actually finally want to play something at 9th grade, like form a band, you already have that base. These players forgot that long-slow grinding during their kid days and they give you advice in the presumption that you already have or can quickly develop that what I and my buddy call "mechanism" to just fretting as you wish. It's a hard skill, very very hard indeed. And that's what stop people actually learned guitar. What's the point to learn the music theory, the advanced chords, the fret, if you can't actually fret it kind-of-cleanly ??? For most adults the theory and "techniques" are very easy to understand. However the thing is it's not like you just read a book about how to make good PPTs and you can immediately apply that into your next business meeting. You can know all the theory, but just can't play. It's a hard skill like the proper form of competitive swimming or the PingPong move if you watch the Olympics. On the textbook maybe all the "techniques" can be taught in just 4 pages, you know it exactly, but just can't perform/apply it! I tried to learn guitar when I was already an adult for several times but failed. You guessed it yes with all those fancy "apps", they all failed. Until during the Covid days I met with an old friend of mine who is a master level guitarist. I asked him to teach me. He is very generous and want to do the same thing as "make me fast-forward to a competent player without all those detours". He tried to teach me some "simple" moves, and got stunned that I just can't do it in "reasonably sufficient practice time". Then we did some catch ups and he then realized that it actually DID take him a very long time to just to moving chords effortlessly -- but for him that's when he's in primary schools, like a lifetime ago. Now he felt that's just a glimpse of time, but in reality it's a slow grind, a very long one! Then he told me, well, guess you just need to find some songs and practice the chord change... to get your MACHEMISN ready. Before that, don't worry about anything. Because nothing matters when you can't even control your finger freely. I asked him, well, what song and what chords should I start with ??? He said back, well... ANYTHING. ANYTHING will work. Just search the song name and chords yourself... I was in doubt at that time however, after I practice through -- as a matter of home grounded... The magic happened. All those things that I didn't practice they automatically become "not so hard" then "easy". All the improvement is all just the neural-muscular link. Now though I'm still at a beginner/intermediate level, but yeah, for the simple stuff, I can say "now I can play the guitar". I'm into the rhythm playing so I guess that helps a little. Actually I did agree very well with your another tips, that is you don't need an electric guitar. Even though now I have one, but that's just unnecessary. What I love most is to use the accoustic guitar to mimic or get the feeling of that "rock" sound. I think there's another IMO "better" tips that you didn't mention -- that is "START EARLY"! (or "START NOW!") The most painless no-effort way is actually spend that slow-grind days in your primary school days which you'll soon forget when you grow up... But if you already missed that boat, the next best time is now -- you can just play now and then, find something you love and just play, after several seasons you'll have the fingers and the magic will happen. The worst scenario, you'll get good when you retired (or sooner), at least at that time you'll have some real hobby now.

As a older musician who plays a variety of musical instruments I fully agree with and would make #1, the tip to Keep It In Sight. My personal collection of musical instruments is like living with a group of women. All are wanting, often competing for, my time and attention. But it's the ones that stay within easy reach, always within view and welcoming of my touch, that I spend the most time with. Keep your guitar in view on a stand, right next to where you spend most of your time, and you will just naturally find it in your hands more often. All other tips and tricks are worthless if the guitar is not in your hands so this simple approach will benefit you the most.

I think that most people quit or don't want to do anything when they realize how long it is going to get. Like for example 3 years to learn something to do it right. And they do NOTHING. Then after 3 years of doing nothing they realize, that if they would start doing it or keep doing it, then they would already be at the point what they wanted to achieve. Better is to think in short step goals. You want to try something but you are too lazy, just start doing that and look for your small improvements, not the ultra fast song or the final result that you want to achieve. Even if you gave up after several months because tyou realized that it is not what you wanted to do then this is also a good sing. Because you tried what you though you are interested in. What I mean is that, if you would not try, then you would still be thinking about it to try it, and imagine that later at the edge of your death in older edge, you would regret that you didn't tried it, or several stuff. I myself want to try learn electric guitar, and try to make games on unreal engine 5 for example, and I want to do it, because it's returning to me like boomerang, that I want to try it, especially before my death, because I will regret it in the future that I didn't tried it. I though that I would like to draw, for example manga, I was good at drawing when I was a kid, compared to other kids, and also in high school I was good at doing diagrams of objects of for example electric devices. I tried to draw some characters, it took me long time to do some details aaaand realized that it's not worth my time. Tooks too many time to draw a single picture and it's not satysfying for me at all, it's just like, yeah finally done. So now I know that I don't want to try drawing, because it has no meaning to me, not even fun.

its alot harder for me to practice because i work two jobs, i have one day off a week, and on that one day off i am expected to spend time on family obligations all day so im always burnt out and now never able to spend time learning like i intended. i did buy rocksmith which has helped a fair bit but i dont think its actually reading my guitar right because alot of times when i know for a fact i hit the note but it says i didnt. or when doing the arcade games it will absolutely do the wrong note despite doing exactly as it said. i use to be able to spend 3 days a week practicing but after i got a second job that all stopped. i do have both electric and nylon acoustic because i wasnt sure which one would be easier to start with (my electric was on the cheaper side yes but it came with amp, picks and everything else needed to start with). my nylon guitar sounds good and plays fairly well, but my electric does rub when you pluck the thickest string, doesnt matter light or firm it will rub one of the frets making it hard to play which is why i think rocksmith makes the mistakes it does when im doing practices. i looked into getting a tutor but the cheapest i could find was like 100 bucks a week for an hour long session which to me isnt worth the money. anyone got any advise i could try? considering my electric is rubbing on one of the frets i assume i would need to have that fixed before i can continue with it properly, so for my nylon guitar any pointers for me to try and follow when i do try and practice?

To me learning songs doesnt work, trying to hit the perfect notes always is hard to me, I went to the basic starting learning pentatonic scales and practice whatever sounds good with a drum video in the backgroud as a metronom, I dont know any songs right now but my skills are improved a lot, is like you said, just play anything, you need to enjoy what are you doing :)
