From my own journey, it was my grandfather who cautioned me that I'd never make it as an architect. Yet, two decades later, I'm witnessing the same scenario, finding it incredibly inspiring that there are individuals who refuse to yield to obstacles or naysayers. No further words needed - impressive achievement.

Urban Planning can be implemented faster in military-totalitarian environments. a. It needs visualization, 1-2 people. b. Implementers - thousands of people. c. Controllers, Review board, Layers, Judges, Courts, Jails - millions of people.

In Australia, urban planning is marketed to students as a creative, wide realm, worldly and fun course akin to sim city where you can change cities and use your wild imagination on subjective social ideas. In reality urban planning in Australia is a lot different. Its a statutory micro managed world full of spreadsheets and "cog in the wheel" decisions. It really is nothing like the courses they market. And that is the great sadness of it all really. People enter the field with high hopes and visions and realize quickly that it is just to process applications and stamp plans with no creative input at all. I would recommend all students to first ask "how does this course relate the reality of the job?" before wasting their time and their money. Property development in Australia and real estate form the bulk of the highest purchasing among our population. The town planner is often seen as an obstacle and the main thing people want from you, the only thing is just to process forms and letters quickly. That is all people actually want from your role. They don't want your creativity, your ideas etc etc. I really think it all boils down to keeping a false economy going and the town planning profession suffering just to keep its own existence and relevance in the scheme of things (from my own experience!)

Would you say that urban design is where the creativity comes to play? And that the field itself is less in demand due to already built cities in more developed countries ? In Congo for exemple where am from the concept of urban planning seem so foreign, most of the cityscape was traced in colonial times and obviously degrading, a creative city planner is therefore needed in our pursuit of building better cities

Hi. I loved this so much! I've been trying to research for a KZfaq vid that breaks down the stuff in this video! 🩺 The part at 1:11 is my favorite. Your video really is similar to the channel from this new health enthusiast Dr. Ethan. Ethan's videos are knowledgable and he really helped me on my studies! He is the most informative med student in the UK and he talks about health symptoms and diseases. You should see his KZfaq out and give the medical student a subscribe! 👉 #DrEthanMedicine

If we really understood Survival of the Fittest we would put the world leaders who are uncooperative and ruining our good and noble agendas in *Solitary Confinement* and they would never be able to run their rogue, random, and ridiculous agendas ever again.

He doesn't appear to give credit to Janette Sadik-Khan or Jan Gehl who came up with many of these ideas, nor to the folks responsible for the Greenway or the High Line. Those projects go way back through the Bloomberg and Giuliani administrations. Two cents from an NYC resident & UM Alum.

@@KanyonM Haha, I've actually found the assignments pretty fun anyway. Diving into stats, trying to match the census records with the settlement and economic data; reviewing regional development plans, proposing green solutions to things city council has hereto now ignored. I'm a massive dork (literally massive, 6'6 280 muscular, actually the entire Urban Planning student body I've found are deadlifters, like if we were to do a charity drive, it would be a deadlifting competition), I love tedium and analytics, so the course load is awesome to me.
