How is your chicken walking now? Just wondering because I have one that is having trouble (leg got caught in wire crate month ago). Thank you!

She’s fine. Yours might just be a sprain. I think if you isolate her for a couple weeks she may come around

I have 3 roosters they are brothers. I have had them since they hatched. Things got interesting when the hormones came in. Who's in charge has changed twice. There was lots of blood. Hoping now that they are over a year old things will be calming down. We did get build a bigger coop cuz they did not like sleeping near each other.

I think the key is having lots of hens and lots of space. Each rooster will take his ladies and go separate ways. They really think they’re something 😅

That intro segment was really difficult to hear. Like; I have my volume turned up all the way and I still had to strain to try and make out what you were saying. I'm trying my best right now but some circomstances have made it so they don't have a safe place to wander around outside of their run. I'm going to try some of these out anyway though to try and make it as good for them as I can until things improve. My porch chickens like me a lot but my run chickens are kind of indifferent. They're more interested in if I have treats than they are in me. But I think it's because having to be in such a small area is stressful for them.
@pretendfarm2 күн бұрын
Chickens can do well in confinement. It’s very hard to befriend them. I didn’t have my microphone charged so I decided to wing it. I’ll try and produce louder videos!
@Mangacide2 күн бұрын
@@pretendfarm Yeah that makes sense. Most of the porch chickens I raised from babies so I guess it's natural they like me more than the ones I got that are older. There's one on the porch named Cinnamon who varies between trying to peck me and wanting attention. She's great! That does explain the change in volume between the beginning and the next segment after that ahaha.

Thanks for the great reviews. Is the water silo insulated at all? Right now I'm using a Britetap waterer that connects to a 5 gallon water cooler. The water stays nice and cool for the chickens, but it's limited to two nipples. It would be nice to give more of the girls an option to drink at the same time.
@pretendfarm7 күн бұрын
It’s pretty thick plastic but I wouldn’t call it insulated. One neat feature is you can purchase a float Valve that hooks to a hose and continuously replenishes the water as they drink it. That’d probably make for pretty cool water through the day

Okay... um... doesn't sound pleasurable for either the Rooster or the Hen. What drives the rooster to want to do this if there is no ... um... physical immediate reward? (Can I ask that on KZfaq?)

It’s kinda like how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop. The world may never know. I guess God made the rooster that way and he just does it…..kinda like going cock-a-doodle-doo every 15 minutes. He just does it 😂

I got a chicken cam inside the coop, and they look hot at night, like panting and opening their wings. It's pretty shaded, and has 3 windows and vents on corrugated roof. It's mid-80s here on the high, I wonder if I should add a vent maybe with a fan across one of the windows. And just bolt a panel onto it for the colder time.

@@pretendfarm Same, they just really don't get kiddie pools etc. I just followed the chicken chick's advice to dunk your chicken up to the neck in a bucket of cool water in order to wet the feathers because they can't sweat. It worked for a few of them, my lavender orpingtons were less panty, and my roos also, who are all docile with people, but they all protested to some degree or another. I ended up injuring a hen's leg when she tried to fly up wildly and suddenly. So lesson learned. Do everything very carefully.
