Ball is terrible as Edna, awful singer, more like shouting words than singing, far too mechanical and robotic, unnatural movement, like going through steps in his head in a vaudeville double act rather than living the character. Also say “sup hose” not support hose, don’t assume your audience is ignorant. and it’s “wiener stand” not hot dog stand, this musical was ruined without Harvey and diluted by the director for the English audience. Tours are terrible.

You could tell in this clip that both actors corpse on stage and needed to take a few minutes to gain their composure.

Got to agree with some comments on here Michael Ball brilliant as Edna. I saw Brian Conley as Edna he was good too. Watching this you can see Michael Ball loves playing Edna.

Micky Dolenz was fantastic but I saw him & Brian Conley in the roles.

I saw Michael Ball and Les Dennis doing this, the audience adored it! They were cracking up and cheering and whistling, highlight of the show!

Thanks for posting this. When "Hairspray" streamed last week I was hoping it would be this production as I'm a Michael Ball fan and heard that he was great in this. I enjoyed the production with Harvey Fierstein, but I like this better.
