Any updates on the gooseneck, how has it held up, anything you would change? I might have missed something over the years ;-)

The wood one? No, it’s gone already. It was pretty rotten actually. Owner just wanted to seal up below the waterline to keep in floating for another season. But there isn’t much left of it.
@SteveCockneyRebel22 сағат бұрын
guys i didnt see you treat your wood against rot then epoxy? or is it just me lol
@SailingUma12 сағат бұрын
We haven’t gotten there yet. The edges are sealed with the glass. The exposed sections will get treated eventually. But it’s also marine ply. It will last another 50-100yrs untreated.

The rudders being built out of metal hold up better to Orcas than fiberglass and wood rudders, Why hasn’t anyone tried to use fragment grenades to deter the Orcas from tearing up the sailboats I have no problem with using my polar bear defense system against them.

Now be removing all that ballast around remember that you took the engine out and replaced it with the electric motor how much more did the engine weigh than the electric motor? I would figure that out and add weight to the area. But you should take this into consideration.
@SailingUma12 сағат бұрын
From full empty, to full cruising mode, we add about 3000 lbs to the boat. The difference between the diesel and fuel tank, and electric and battery set up is negligible.

Renovation? You've been watching Sampson Boat Co where Leo "renovated" Tally Ho and then you thought, we can do that in glass-fiber!
@SailingUmaКүн бұрын
I am unfamiliar with the name you are referring to. But this is our 2nd renovation . Only we are doing it better this time now that we’ve had 10years under our belt

@@SailingUma - I jokingly referenced the complete rebuild of a wooden sailing boat, documented in a YT channel. That boat went on sea trial this summer for the first time. As I followed you for most of the 10 years on YT, I now must think of an interview with a now late famous author that the journalist asked about his favorite authors. His answer: I'm a writer, not a reader.

With the length of tether you show in the video I can’t see how you would end up fully in the water for this vest to work while still attached.

The component names that you weren’t sure of to describe attachment of a rudder to the transom of a boat are pintles and gudgeons. Great teamwork. I’d throw more glass on your bulkheads so you have less worries about rotting wood.

Will you have enough ventilation for the electric drive if you completely enclose it?
@SailingUmaКүн бұрын
It's liquid cooled. And also 15kw rated, but we only can use about 8kw to get to hull speed. So we don't really heat the motor up that much.

Subtitle for this episode would be "Perfect" :)

It is not. They have only had one boat this whole time.

skeg hung rudders can be balanced too, the way this is done is by having a cutout in the skeg to clear a section at the bottom of the rudder that overhangs the rudder post forwards. And I don't know if you would count dinghies, but every one I've ever sailed has had watertight compartments (buoyancy tanks), air bags (can you guess which boat I sailed as a kid?) or a hull filled with foam.

I've been following your channel for quite some time and I'm disappointed you call this clip 'episode' - which it is not. This clip is nothing but tiktok cheet clip. Sincerely good luck with your rebuild. Looking forward to see you on the water again.

lol . To clarify We didn’t call this clip “episode” . The 30min 400th episode is available on our channel. This short is a trailer celebrating that particular episode. Try and read the title again . 😉

You should also learn how to uses a tic stick. Anyoe who works on their own boat should. Its great for carpentry on odd shapes cuts. I used it all the time and I work on boats for a living. Its old world boat building stuff.

You stumbled onto a major issue with our food industry. It's exactly that, an industry. The mass produced food at the supermarket is low quality and often with, might as well be, slave labor. To support the farmers prices have to be higher.
