Thanks for great coverage on all stuff you did, I’m literally in exact same boat, I’m convinced it’s valve related similar to this. Thanks for posting

Anyone has any updates? I have a “301” problem on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Runs fine on the freeway but in city stop and go traffic, starts to misfire and engine code comes back. Mechanic checked the compression - good, swapped injector and plugs made no difference. Any suggestions?

Any updates? Were you able to fix your issue? I also have a P0301 code and cyl 1 compression is lower relative to the other cylinders. I'm going to do a leakdown later today as well to see if I can pinpoint the leak. If it's valve related, I was planning to try and run some water through the intake in the hopes that maybe it's just way carboned up before a pull the head for a valve job.

Michael, sorry for the late reply haven’t been on this channel in a while. This was my problem, after refurbishing the head the jeep ran fine. Hope you got yours fixed!

@@headscratchersts2590 Thanks for the confirmation! Mine is still in pieces in the garage, but now I know my next steps if it's still missing. 😬

@@michaelauskings1352 I have this issue too P0301 after using fuel valve cleaner. I replaced all the spark plugs checked coil packs and I can see huge amount of carbon. I know its a valve but only fix is to get it refurbished at a machine shop?

@@maxswain4011 I've heard the suggestion to try "steam cleaning." Basically get up to operating temp and hold about 2000 RPM while misting water directly into the throttle body. Apparently the water converts to steam and breaks up the carbon. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to when I get everything back together. I don't have a ton of carbon, but it does look like there's a little more around the intake valve seat on cyl 1 compared to the other cylinders.

@@maxswain4011 all in all to fix this problem on mine I spent about 350$, thats including getting a complete head refurbished and gasket kit. Not a horribly expensive job but it is a tad bit of labor. Lot better to do it yourself vs taking it to a shop that would charge you an arm and a leg
