Thanks! Sadly it is indicative of the state of our current drivers training. A lot of new drivers have zero lane control and are constantly under pressure to perform at top peak while also doing rotating shifts day in and day out. They do not have the endurance or are trying to drive while distracted/half asleep. Im more scared of other truck drivers then I am of 4 wheelers with no clue. Peace

Very good points about the economy and jobs. Your garden looks like ours looks in mid to end of June being here in southern Minnesota! We have problems f=growing carrots and peppers, so focusing on what we can grow. Enjoy your advice, very informative, we are having a hard time with growing garlic and onions here, any additional advice like the temps you should be planting at, the ground cover that works best would be so very appreciated. Excellent video, thank you! :)
@malakiscorner

Garlic should be in very well drained soil. I plant spring and fall when the soil temp is above 45. I use a soil mixture of top soil, black kow, perlite, bone meal, blood meal, and local yard debris. I cover with 3-4 inches of leaves to over winter and turn that into the soil in spring. That mixture seems to work well for all my beds. I do use the horticulture method.
@malakiscorner

Another tip with garlic is I started my patch in 2014, I didn't start harvesting until 2017. I just kept adding leaves to cover them and let them do thier thing. It took 2 years before I had a good patch going. I now just harvest to thin out the beds. I normally leave 4-6 plants all year to repopugate the beds. They will spread if you don't do anything. So be aware of that. Mine are in full sun, but it can be in partial sun. Just don't overly disturb them. Garlic tends to go 'tits up' if disturbed too much.

As a former California resident we were also prepared. We had the duct tape, different tools you mentioned. Also a good item to have ready is a pet first aid kit. I found one on Amazon. I was looking for a good first aid kit. And a pet first aid kit showed up. Glad we did. We were out of wrap (for sprains) there was a wrap for pets. My daughter sprained her ankle 3 days ago. So for a temporary solution til we could make sure it wasn't broken. Thankfully it wasn't. Now we gotta find pet animal wrap. But that kit has so much stuff if us humans need something we can use it. Always remember pet food and any medicine they may need. We 16:00 always have seeds on hand. We grow our own vegetables. We don't have a water catchment yet. But we are buying one soon. Honestly I would have never thought about different glue types. Yes praying for the world. I was in debate clubs when I was in highschool. It's sad they don't teach that anymore. So much hate in the world! 😭😭😭😭😭 Great video!

From one mom to another I can't imagine what you've been thru. Happy your relationships with your kids are good. It's life's experiences that brings us to a realization that if we made it thru all that we can make it thru anything. Fear is thrown at us every day, but when we have been thru all we have, we can make it thru anything. Hand it over to God, worst case ... we go to Heaven, it's our final resting place, beautiful peaceful place where we get to meet and live with our maker God. I was paralized with fear that turned into full blown agoraphobia when I was in my 30's when my 3 daughters were small, it was tough, but I pushed myself thru it and came out the other side. Thank you for sharing your life's experiences, we're all going thru stuff, they throw stuff at us, at the end of the day we have God, and the promises of the Bible and each other, huge hugs and much love. The garden toppers I got off Amazon. They come with the frame for the greenhouse part. The beds themselves I got off ebay they are Galvanized, so will last a long time. The garlic is a nc native variety of elephant garlic. It has a distinct flavor, not too harsh but with a slight spiciness to it. Much better then any store bought garlic ive tried. And yes I love freebie vegs lol

Thank you for explaining this in an easy to follow tutorial!! Most people's video's on canning get to be a bit too technical, your break down is much easier to follow. I like the cream of tarter tip, my mom and grandma always used vinegar. Do you recommend the pressure canners that don't have the rubber seals? If so, can you use Olive oil on the rim? Great video!
@malakiscorner
@malakiscorner 4 ай бұрын
Yes, I recommend the all american canner. Its a bit expensive but pays for itself quickly. And yes you can use olive oil. I use Vaseline as its cheaper and easy. Olive oil tends to cost more. I imagine you could use any good food oil. But yes you want a canner that'll last you years and the ones with rubber seals tend to warp over time. Hope that helps

We went camping a lot when my kids were small, we always put the tents in the yard and sprayed them down with warm water, a few teaspoons of vinegar and a couple drops of dawn dish soap and left them in the sun for 2 days, they always dried nice and the vinegar kept them from ever smelling. I can't use bleach as it gives me a migraine. Good idea's for your containers. I don't envy the amount of work this is for you after all the driving!!! Take care.

That review of the tent is worth remembering. I know companies make a lot of product claims that fall short, but having that tent up for months beyond the typical "weekender campout" and seeing it held up would encourage me to buy that tent. Having to clean all those containers is important I agree. Items like that, especially plastic attracts particles like a magnet. When I have to do a cleaning like that I don't use anything like Clorox wipes. They are so expensive. I make a small bucket of warm water, a little Dawn because it doesn't leave a sticky residue and a splash of bleach. The bleach kills the microbes that cling to the plastic as well as the dirt which also has its own variety of "little critters" in it. Hey did your chickens give you any eggs while you were gone?

I can see you've put a great deal of thought in your food stores. You've offered good advice. Your pointing out that you replaced the deck boards yourself with no help and no experience shows you have what it takes to overcome adversity. You also built your coop with no help or experience. That too shows you have what it takes to take care of business. Those two jobs that you completed brought something to mind that had bothered me about prepping channels. There are prominent KZfaqr prepper channels operated by men who display no interest in gaining the knowledge to do even the two projects that you completed,yet they have thousands of subs who hang on every word they speak. If watching a prepper channel and the guy has no skills and shows no interest in basic skills like even simple carpentry, canning,food prep or even being able to change a tire, they are watching a poser, a phony who has to get someone to do it for them. Who's only real skill is living off of others good will. My advice is if any prepper "says but can't do" we are wasting our time.

Hello there! I was wondering about the part where you said to freeze all the dry goods. My question is, wouldn't it cause condensation after taking it out of the freezer? Everything I've frozen has done that. If there condensation..it'll mold. Would love to hear your answer. Thank you very much :) Oh and I'd like to make a pantry shelf too! 😊
@malakiscorner
@malakiscorner 5 ай бұрын
@@amber-childofgod1707 it will if you don't let it defrost and come up to ambient temperature slowly. I leave a bunch of dry goods in my freezer if I'm not going to use it right away. I've personally never had an issue with mold. I'm guessing it's because I allow a full 12 hrs to defrost prior to either canning it, or setting in my pantry for a month. I definitely always use an oxygen absorber 1 size bigger then recommended when I'm dry canning. Ie a quart jar of pasta, ill put 2 100cc o2 absorbers in it and use either brand new lids or the rubber seal lid that came with repurposed jars. Like I reuse Ragu or pickle jars after I clean and sterilize them. To not freeze dry goods you will definitely have issues with pests, such as weevils, hatching from the product. All dry goods have bug eggs in them. This is due to the large facility's they are produced in and the unhygienic warehouses they are stored in prior to shipments to stores. Therefore, having seen some of these storage facilities(I drive an 18 wheeler), I am going to freeze my dry goods. Freezing kills the bug eggs. But again, I've never had an issue with mold after freezing. Hopefully this helps answer your question

I just watched this video and I've got to say a few things about it. Forgiveness? You mentioned the Bible. Jesus had an answer to the forgiveness question. He said forgive seven times seventy. As for people that dig through someone's past, just that fact tells you that person is of low character and feels good thinking they are superior to you. That's my opinion. These people are toxic and to be avoided altogether regardless if they are family or past acquaintances. " Prepping community"?. Its going to be a cross section of the public but with a common interest. It could be a damn kennel club or garden club, your going to get it all. What burns me is prepping is about sustainable living possibly under serious circumstances which makes it critical as to who you associate with and follow as knowledgeable because the consequences of bad advice can lead to serious issues. Another gripe I have is prepper channels that are more about enriching themselves off others who trust them and believe they are good people when they are far from it but play act like they are harmless all the while using others. Insincerity is a word that comes to mind. What are the fruits of the friendship? Do they teach? Do they actually have common skills like carpentry, electrical, construction, gardening, animal husbandry, skilled at crafts? Im aware if some channels with large number of subs that have NONE of those skills. Why? Trust by unaware people and uneducated on true prepping. Well that's my two cents. 👍😎
