The backup app switch icon shouldn’t get stuck on Reverse, and it should display the camera. The specific fix identified for me was updating the LANGDU Protocol. In the end, I decided to return it due to a volume configuration issue. The sound was super loud each time I started my FX50 and the CarPlay settings were like an enlarged iPhone. Odds are those issues would be addressed by software later on, but I wanted something that worked better at that time.

Everything is explained in the Road Top User Manual. This is an integrated system, so there were no splicing of wires needed. The most challenging part of the installation was getting access to the area. For this I looked at KZfaq videos by CSI (Computer Systems Integrated, I believe) for how to open the dash and center console for installation.

I am assuming you are referring to the tweeters. All the video and photos that I captured were included, but unfortunately do not have much content regarding the connectors. I used the accessories included with the JBL Club 750T 3/4 Tweeters. Don’t remember having to do any cable splicing to get them installed.

Did you also move the heater over to the new battery? That gold colored wrapping on the old battery is the heater to keep the battery from freezing and losing its charge in the winter months. I did that when I had to change my battery.

As someone who works in used exotic car sales (Lambo, Ferrari, Mclaren, etc.). I would care to guess that the third mechanic was trying to make something out of nothing. To tell you that you need an entire exhaust system on a car cause there sounds like there might be a leak with no air or condensation is kind of ridiculous.. don't you think? He would be the 4th set of eyes to check out this car, if the dealer bought from auction (95% do) then he was probably the 5th or 6th. Seems like for an almost 20 year old car with 100k+ miles, it was pretty perfect. good video though, great chance for the next buyer.
@designbyetzel9214
@designbyetzel9214 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the response. The last mechanic is a good friend looking out for me. His recommendation was to replace only the flex pipe and resonator for the vehicle, but those parts did not exist at all in US Inventory. With the car being so rare, I could only find those factory parts on EBay in Latvia. After shipping and installation, that added $3,000 to the repair bill. The challenge is that was only the tip of the iceberg. On the interior and exterior alone, you would think there were no issues - but it was not properly maintained mechanically. That is likely why it was passed along in the first place. I did my homework, but still almost got hosed by repairs. It was no one person’s fault - just a learning lesson that you need to be prepared for big bills at any time and place with these vehicles.

well.. buying a rare car like that will get you in a lot of trouble as parts are scarce and mechanics too inexperienced with them.

Great points! I have been found of the classics because they are rare and hard to find. Most people would not go after them for that very reason. I guess that is how I see myself as well. Nothing comes easy, so I work my best to stay up to the challenge. What happened in this case was a bit of a perfect storm - a diamond in the rough. I just as happy to have found it as I was to hit the eject button when I learned what it required. No regrets at all. It will always make for a great story!

Why are we as a society so quick to just accept so many high cost electronics in our lives have such blatant planned obselecence? There's no way I'm buying another nest product knowing they basically put a 3-5 year kill switch in it that is essentially non repairable. Screw Google for making this so anti consumer.

I recently changed the battery in my NEST Hello, and it still does not work properly. It works when the unit is connected via the USB port, but after charging for 12 hours, I reconnected it to the house wires and the Nest still stops when the button is pressed. I replaced it with a Nest Gen 2 (wired) doorbell.

Just replaced the battery in mine and here are some things I can tell you. I used a guitar pick to get the faceplate off. There is a lot of adhesive under there. It's a thin piece of plastic so take it slow and easy. There are only 4 screws (hidden under adhesive) to take out so even though it is really hard to get apart, do not despair, keep working on it and it will eventually come loose. I was able to get one end loose first and kept working with multiple little screw drivers prying it out little by little. Be careful because as I was doing this, the glass covering the camera fell off. When I pulled it apart it disconnected the battery. Just look for the port, align the plug with the pins and plug in your new battery. I put the blue rubber thing back around the edge of the unit and snapped it back together. I rolled up a couple of pieces of scotch tape to put the faceplate back on but you could use also double-sided tape. Hope this helps.

You will likely need Phoenix Automotive to repair this if you have no camera feed (if it is blank). If you do have an image, you use the camera button as a switch. For my FX50 in Drive at low speed it will go to Around View, Right Front View, then back to the original screen. In reverse, it will switch between screens. I did not know this until the camera feed was actually working. A lot of troubleshooting before the issue was finally identified on the vendor end.

@@etzpress ok I’ll see about that thanks, it’s very weird it’s wired to my reverse light at the back of my car and not wired to the back of the unit and I get the camera video when my door is open and in reverse otherwise it is blank, however, otherwise it is just blank. When it is wired to the back of the unit it works for the first use but when I get in later it completely takes over screen and I have to disconnect power to the radio

This is probably the only video so far that I can respect and like. All others are just showing off what tools they have/what they can do with them or are MBAs reviewing this crap in Google's pocket. In my troubleshooting, I've also taken the puck (Nest Chime Connector as its called) apart just to see if anything is wrong since the solenoid bell also doesn't work. Can't see anything so far on the circuit. I for sure did not need a lathe to for the sake of showing off to open the puck (like that reddit user). I just used a screwdriver for glasses to pry the 3/5 plastic latches on the puck (helps to rid of the double sided tape).

To add to this, I'm (the one typing) an amateur with some advanced technician level knowledge on electronic devices. This channel as well as a side business for repairing/renting specialized test equipment is shared with my cousin who is an EE going to a career in RF Engineering. We work very closely. I find it annoying how this was designed. It obviously was designed to pinch every penny but may or may not be intended (was formerly Nest Labs owned) as "engineered to fail" a.k.a. Planned Obsolesce a.k.a. Google needs you to buy gen 2 in order to profit off of acquiring Nest Labs. I can only imagine what this is like for Joe and Jane average that has other things to do besides mess around with a complicated piece of junk that will lose function after 2-3 years (depending on temperature exposure). Or mess with customer service for 2 hours of run arounds. Its junk to me but I got stuck with it by the home builder so might as well put that knowledge to use. If only I can find the time to video a complete teardown/repair.

@@CNe7532294 Appreciate the feedback. I have found that I get a good start on projects by seeing what others have already done. Sometimes this is written down, or there are pictures here and there. I enjoy documenting the process as I am a teacher as well as an engineer. You never know how what you have learned can impact someone else. My main reasons for this repair were that I liked the G1 Nest Hello. It has better features and video that the newer generation and the cost for materials was not bad at all ($15).

Without the proper tools it’s definitively not as easy as it looks. It was rather difficult to remove the face plate without cracking it then on top of that removing the main board from the body to access the battery. After that it’s simple to put back together. I did a bit of damage along the edges when trying to pry it out but didn’t really care since I will eventually switch to Ring or some other security system. Overall the replacement battery did fix the camera from going offline after button press.

I agree with the disassembly process. One thing that helped in my case was a silicone cover. You can find them pretty cheap on Amazon and it would cover up any damage that may have happened. In my opinion, worth the repair since the older Nest Hellos have higher resolution that the newer Nest cameras.
