I absolutely love all of your videos and they are so helpful to me as a piano teacher-thank you!! I have a few teenage students who are interested in learning some pieces by female composers like Amy Beach, Clara Schumann, Cecile Chaminade, etc. I would love to hear your teaching strategies and tips for any of their pieces! Appreciate all of your content!!

I have been binge-watching your teaching videos this past month and it's gotten me so excited to start teaching my students again this Fall! Thanks so much for all of your content-I learn so much from you. Do you plan to keep these KZfaq videos going? I noticed you also have videos in Tim Topham's membership, too.

Thank you for watching! The Piece by Piece series over at TopMusic has concluded, but there are many videos stored in that series! I had to take a break from creating videos for the summer while my children were home, but I'll be back with new content soon! In the meantime, check out my resources here: www.jannawilliamson.com/resources

I had difficulty with the harmonic analysis of this piece. However, when you explained the concept of sequences for A minor and D minor scales, along with the three different kinds of A minor scales, all my confusion was resolved. I could then understand why and how different chords are used in this piece. Thank you so much for doing this analysis and sharing it with us. I really dislike playing a piece without understanding the analysis and just memorizing it. I prefer to understand and then play something. This method has been empowering for me, not only as a piano player but also in becoming a composer and improviser in the future.

I can play this piece in 20 seconds. So easy after I have downloaded a piano application into my brain and now I am able to play any piano piece with zero practice. With this piano application downloaded into my brain, I am now a concert pianist with zero schooling and zero practice time. So easy. It's a walk in the park.

I love yoru teaching. This is the way it ought to be: discovery, explanatoin, love, and joy. 1:01 "Many people who graduated with a college degree in music are not ... music training..." You're right about that. Most music programs is where the love of music goes to die. Blaire School of Music killed my children's love of music (most, not all, teachers were brutal and abusive -- no uncommon). They beat it out of them. Most every music school grad I've known (not every) were ruined by music schools.

Could you make videos this fall about the other moment Musicaux by Schubert? I assigned the other f minor one. I’m not really familiar with the pieces, but I started playing this summer. What wonderful pieces. I’m very famillar with his Noble waltzes

Hi Janna, could you suggest a book for daily technique training suitable for an intermediate level?
@JannaWilliamson
@JannaWilliamson Ай бұрын
I don't use a lot of books. For advancing technique (maybe late intermediate and on?) I do like Hinson's Technique for the Advancing Pianist - amzn.to/3XRf5IL. The Accelerando series is also quite good; books 4-5 might be best fit for mid-intermediate. amzn.to/4eYcWkO

Great bench review. Thank you. Could you please make a video about the other 2 benches in the background. I would love to hear your opinion about them and how they are compared to the new Hidrau bench. Thank you.
@JannaWilliamson
@JannaWilliamson Ай бұрын
I no longer have the brown one; it came with the piano, but it broke. The black one is a Jansen artist bench. It’s not as tall at its highest height as the Hidrau. It’s also much more physical effort to raise and lower (lots of rolling).

I was wondering about measure 58, beat 2, treble clef...in some editions it has a G# which is what I grew up playing, but then in the Keith Snell edition it doesn't have the G#. I've seen it both ways in various editions. I was wondering if you had clarity on this. Many thanks, Norma.
@JannaWilliamson

I definitely believe that's a G#. Snell's editing is not the best in my opinion.

I love this simple sonatina and classical sonatinas in general, especially when they’re melodic and whimsical. You’ve already made a video for Clementi (C major, no. 1). Are you familiar with Mozart’s Viennese Sonatina? I like that one as an introduction to classical music and form. It starts with dramatic octaves, followed then by my favorite measure, which, if memory serves, is a lovely, short chromatic passage. Just an idea suggestion for a possible future video. 🎉❤

Can i ask you why gymnopedie 1 is on the list of the pieces that student must learn instead of gnossiennes 1 ? Because Gnossiennes is harder ?
@JannaWilliamson
@JannaWilliamson 2 ай бұрын
If you're referring to my listening list, those are intended to be pieces that students should *recognize,* not necessarily play. The Gymnopedie is just more famous than the Gnossiennes. I also have those linked on the list.

Hey Janna; im practicing daily the scales and chord and arpeggios. I need motivation. Can you tell me why are they so important? I mean scales and chords etc.
@JannaWilliamson
@JannaWilliamson 2 ай бұрын
Easy - to build facility and because they show up in repertoire. Think of it like a sports player who does drills outside of scrimmage. (Baseball players practice hitting, catching pop ups, etc., outside of a game to build their technique and be ready in the moment of a game.) I have many videos featuring individual pieces where I talk about the scales and chords within. kzfaq.info/sun/PLyxlD3l1usT5XIe4QiPngmv8AYzy2gKGq&si=uPjtGEFFLOM7JdI3
