Thanksss! EOE's my favorite beat 'em up. This was the first game I played with QTEs which I SUCKED at, on my first playthrough. I wish it was ported to PSN.

I never knew about Rod jumping to that 2nd floor area in the first boss fight. I had always used the Rod’s Legacy Drive Attack under the chandelier while still on the lobby.

As a gamer and magic player. This was cool to see. I knew about the PC/Xbox Battlegrounds game, but never this PS1 release. I'd buy it for shelf wear and preservation, likely not doing a "Let's Play" anytime soon lol.

Its really similar to trying to play magic its self at a higher level. You need to know what your cards do well and quickly to devote more time to thinking about what you should be using the for rather than how do the work. That said I impulse bought this game for my PlayStation because I love the card game and it is definitely a different beast. Since it is a cursor based game with (in my case since I'm using the original controller) only a D-Pad for movement, its definitely not user friendly to start but honestly like it quite a bit. But a completely fair review, if i hadn't played the card game as much this probably wouldn't be the case.

I'm watching this because I had this game as a kid, but I couldn't save my progress. I think I lacked a memory card

I had my memory card stolen and got a new game that required the memory card in order to even progress in game. It was some dragon game I recall where you played as a female. That was pretty rough, I thought I'd like the game, but it was very infuriating not having the memory card to advance the games plot.

Thanks a bunch for reviewing this "hidden gem." This game can be fairly enjoyable if you're willing to ignore the bland plot, characters, and voice acting. And I won't deny the camera issues, because I had to adjust it almost constantly. But it definitely has some original ideas, like the switching from one weapon to another combo attacks. There also turned out to be some twists I didn't see coming (don't ask me to ruin them). You were also right about the graphics. Let's not forget this was made in 2002, so the game could have looked a lot worse. If it were up to me, I'd hire a bunch of skilled developers to remake it into a true gem. But considering the company went bankrupt and so few people have heard of E.O.E , I can't imagine that's going to happen. Anyway, thanks for the good review.

I’ve often described this game as a magic themed Stratego. Also there is a whole in-game library archive where you can learn about each of the cards before you select them for your deck. Just like a chemist would learn the periodic table first, a little studying will have you knowledgeable of each card’s capabilities just by pictures in no time. This game is a fast paced multi tasking classic.

I have the SNES mini and seriously need to get around to playing this game. It’s really too bad that they didn’t release it back in the day. There’s plenty of cool ideas that would later be used in Command and Zero. Guess that goes to show that Nintendo is unable to innovate when it comes to Star Fox because most of their “new ideas” in 64, Command, and Zero were taken from 2. Adventures and Assault aren’t listed in this because they were made by other companies. The original ideas they’ve had were terrible gimmicks that ruin the overall experience. It’s so weird because their other franchises are great, but they’re under the delusion that they have to reinvent the wheel each game. It’s really too bad that Star Fox is basically dead. Luckily there’s games like Ex-Zodiac, Whisker Squadron, and some others I can’t remember thee names of. Hopefully more appear soon. If you were to take the best elements of Command and 2 you’d have a really strong foundation for a Star Fox tactical game. Admittedly I haven’t played Command so I can’t really speak on the gameplay, but I have watched a few complete play thoughts of the horrible story (I originally thought that people were just exaggerating how bad it actually was), and several reviews of it. From what they’ve said the gameplay is really fun but gets repetitive after a while, the tactical elements are cool, the stylus controls drag it down, and the ability to play as all the characters was a really good idea that should be used in other games. Unfortunately that kind of a game is far too niche for a big company to make, and I highly doubt there’s many people who would make that their passion project. So much could be done with that kind of a game. If you want more Star Fox that’s not officially made by Nintendo then you should really check out UndyingNephalim’s game Star Fox Event Horizon. It’s a reimagining of the 64 continuity that takes characters and elements from all three timelines/reboots to flesh thing out better. It’s a mod for Freespace Open, which is an open source game so it’s 100% free. The guy has done an insane amount of work. There is so much content. The man even got in contact with the lady who plays Krystal and she’s going to do voice work for his game. There’s also an Adventures remake being made by this guy called Esphirian. It’s like BOTW where you can do objectives in whatever order you want and has a big open world. I’ve talked with the guy in the comments and he has some really good ideas for the story/lore. Andross is dead and it’s just a military aliance between Scales and his remnants. Krystal is going to be along for the journey and you can swap between the characters like in Lego Star Wars. The Great Fox and it’s crew will have a larger role in the story. So far there’s just 3 trailers and a dev log. It looks very impressive. You should check both out.
