Looks like you have an over stood (neglected) coppice. People would coppice hazel for poles. These poles could be used as is or made into hurdles after splitting. Hazelnuts are ready early autumn, lightly roast to preserve.

@chrisfryer3118 Brilliant, thanks for the tips! I was told yesterday they need some pruning and I plan to look into it. These trees have likely not been tended to in at least 6 years, but probably closer to 10. I'm really keen to give them a new lease on life!

What an epic week to have witnessed through film so well recorded ..both as a historical record and as relevant recording of our World today...a documentation of devastation on a small, sacred piece of land in Aotearoa, to the largest devastation across the East Coast, along with Hawkes Bay and other areas of the North Island by Cyclone Gabrielle.... both catastrophes created by the insanity of our Mankind!! Thank you for sharing this.

Those potatoes look beautiful, and I love the art you made. As you said, on your travels you could see the damage caused to land without trees to hold it together and ironically that's exactly what you were off to protest about. Common sense isn't all that common aye! So glad you got home safe. What an adventure. Looking forward to a visit sometime x

I'll be posting a template letter in the 'we stand with you' FB group (hopefully today) for anyone inclined (but needing a starting point) to write to our ministers about redirecting funds and man power from the Mangapepeke Valley project, to the East Coast disaster relief. We're thinking of you all up there too and hope you're not too poorly affected yourselves 💜💚💙

I know!! What I didn't get on camera was when she was head butting the others away. Then, when she'd finished licking up all the juices and left, turns out she was just a really fat lamb! Still had a tail n everything!!! I thought for sure she was a mama!
