Recently don’t allow umbrellas and canopies. It’s because people have been impaled by part of the umbrellas, and if you were an area that has a problem with wind this is a lot of reasons why they don’t allow.

How about tent camping? I like to do real camping. Not a house on wheels. I can do that at home.

Nice review. Do you remember how far the lake was from the campground? Locally at Pocahontas park, when they rebuilt the campground, they moved it from right at the water, to 1-2 miles from it, so sad!, thanks

How bad were the water crossings? The Dam looks amazing. Great Video!!!
@billtessgreatadventure14817 ай бұрын
It was in November so, it was really icy cold water. There was one decent crossing, water up to lower calf. Again, it’s dry season. I expect 4-5 crossing in the wet season.

@@stevenrauschelbach5913 Not really. It was on his phone and I was close to him so it could be heard by my camera, but it probably couldn’t be heard from the street in front of our site. I was giving him a hard time about it because I didn’t want to hear it 🤣🤣

State parks are having the same problem in getting workers as every other enterprise, which may cause some services not being available from day to day.

That lady was full of it. We go to Douthat VERY frequently and they put the parking pass in the packet, or it’s given at the front check in area. Glad to know how things are there, as we’ve considered this park as a destination. Thanks!

Thank You!! We were getting some responses on FB from people saying it’s pretty standard at most of the Virginia SPs now. About half of our trips have been in Virginia and the others were in NC. Only once was the packet attached to the post and it was an entire envelope. At the end of the day, that wasn’t the reason we left, but seemed so silly for the lady to argue about. We’re headed to Douthat this fall. We’re looking forward to it!!

It’s not a bad place depending on what you want to do. We wanted to go fishing and the launch area gate is closed during prime hours. If we had an umbrella, we would have stayed for the swimming. Just a lot of information we didn’t know about and had we known prior to, we would have had a much better experience.

How bad was it pulling up the hill and into the campground?
@billtessgreatadventure14812 жыл бұрын
It was sketchy. The rangers told tails of people that got stuck and couldn’t make it up the turn with the corner that goes into the campground. With a 30 footer we made it though. There were rigs of all sizes, so I guess it’s a combo of experience and tow capacity.
@ShaunEJulian2 жыл бұрын
@@billtessgreatadventure1481 Do you mind me asking what size truck you pulled it with?
@bntroadstar2 жыл бұрын
@@ShaunEJulian We pulled it with a Nissan Titan XD with the 5.0L V-8 Diesel. And It did struggle a bit. If I were to go back today or again, I'm not sure that my Silverado 1500 V-8 gas engine would make it, but then again I am only pulling about 6250 pounds so, who knows, cause it pulled great going up the Grayson Highlands and if you have ever been there, you know the Mountain to get into the park is steep and windy.
