Great explanation and that's why they are the top 2 beer makers in the world. I'm American and we certainly do have great beers here, the problem is that the good ones are few and far between

As a Dutchman, I'm quite happy both of our neighbour countries make the best beer in the world. Don't have a favourite between them either. My favourite style is either a Hefeweizen or a Trappist Dubbel.

I went to Belgium a few months ago to test my Dutch and to see what the place was like, and it was a truly amazing experience. I drank so many different kinds of beer I was technically drinking a different type of beer every day! And they each have their signature glasses, with original and unique designs, and the glasses are actually designed for that type of beer! For example the really foamy beers get a glass with a larger opening etc. Long story short I found out how truly magnificent Belgian beer culture is and it is insane I highly recommend trying them out for sure.

Before swinging the bottle around with Trappist, Abby, Duvel or other beers of high yeast, better check first if there's no accumulation of "fond" (dregs). You don't drink the "fond" unless you want to spend the rest of the day on the toilet.
@bramleston5208 Жыл бұрын
Some of the Abbey beers are still brewed at the abbey!!!! The Trappist is an order of monks! They should tighten the rules. Because Leffe is also allowed to call themselves an Abbey beer. But it's very cheap mass produced crap sold as something special. .... I know how popular Leffe is outside of Belgium. That's the marketing machine of AB Inbev doing it's job. Real Abbey beers and Trappist beers are focusing on quality not on ridiculous profits and commercialization. If you ever visit Belgium, please don't drink stuff like Leffe,... you can find it everywhere in the world. And in the real Belgian beer pubs they won't even serve it or won't recommend it. Ask for the real abbey beers / trappist beers. 😁

He has no idea what he was talking about.. Abbey and Trappist are NOT the same, the philosophy behind rhe beer maybe.. 3 steps in becoming a trappist 1. brewed within the wall of a monastery, trappist can not be brewed outside a monastery. 2. the process needs to be supervised by monks... 3. 90% of profits go to chariry and community and abbey ales are FOR PROFIT!

Seems to me ales are making a strong come back. When I think of lager beer in the US I think of the piss water beers found in gas stations, ales on the other hand weisse beer, ipa, stout, etc are much more flavorful and interesting. Granted Germany, the Czech republic, and Belgium do have some good lagers. But after a century of big breweries with lager beer that all tastes the same I think many people are looking to ale type beers. Personally I like weisse beers and ipa's, so as a homebrewer Im combining them. Traditional hefeweizen with lots of hops

stirring the beer bottle then pouring it in the middle of the cup is counterintuitive. stiring the bottle should ve done to lower fiz, so it can be turned into a full liquid. for les fiz in the cuo you should pour the beer on the side of the cup so it slowly pours and creates less used up fiz

Most german lagers taste allright to good for me (im dutch) but the styles from belgium makes me switch style from a Dubbel to a tripel or a grand cru or even (the abomination itself) a lambieck. Theres way more tastes to.belgian beers compared to the german lager, tho the wheats from germany exceed ALL belgian wheat beers. Except for Hertog Jan, that wheat destroys even Franziskaner in my opinion.

I started with Erdinger, but prefer Reichbacher, Weihenstephaner , Franziskaner and Schneider Weisse tap 7. Erdinger is a step below the aforementioned IMO.

There's 1500 styles of German beer. How is that not that many styles?
@metalmichew24 жыл бұрын
Nono, its diffrent lagers, pilseners, wheats or Abts that they brew, they dont brew tripels, dubbels, enkels, grand cru's, ipa's dipa's or whatever other thing. German beers are not styles their more regional diffrences, most of them are Lager style beers with an Abt or wheat in between. Not that it is a bad thing tho, german lagers exceed any other lager from belgium, holland, france, italie, the uk/british isles, or poland. The only lager that is quite different is a genuine Pilsener from Pilzen itself.

German beer is beer, pure and simple. The German ‘Purity Law’ exists for a reason. The Belgians do make top quality traditional lagers as well (as do the Czechs, Austrians, Dutch, Danes, Poles, and others) but some of the Belgian varieties are cocktail liqueurs - enjoyable, yes, but cocktails nonetheless.
@davgg96214 жыл бұрын
Cocktail Liqueurs pfff. Just because you dont like a fruity beer doesnt mean that its not a beer. Go somewhere else whith your pure german Lager, there is no problem if you dont enjoy it. But Taste will always be subjective and just because someone adds spices or fruits to his recipe it wont make his brew less of a beer...
