@@BikingChap thanks! My pcx was great. Over the 35k I did mostly commuting on it other than the usual servicing at 2500 miles (previous gen) it needed 2 sets of head stock bearings, new centre stand and a new indicator ecu which was replaced as a recall under warranty. I had the givi tall screen and muffs on mine for the winter. I resisted putting a topbox on it. Miss it sometimes. It was my first experience of 2 wheels and have many happy memories.

I think a lot of the scoots go through head bearings due to the harsh suspension and dire state of our roads.

I love doing oil changes on cars/bikes. It's such a nice feeling after having it done, for some strange reason. How many miles was this machine on?
@BikingChap
@BikingChap 8 күн бұрын
Absolutely and it’s so ridiculously easy on these I wanted to encourage people to have a go. It’s done around 1,600 miles and had its first service at 600 miles so the oil had around 1,000 on it. I thought it was quite dirty for such little use but it may still be bedding in. Certainly wouldn’t want that in there for thousands more miles.

Excellent fuel consumption. I had my NC since 2014 and put 112000 km on it, mostly 2-up touring. I ride "normally" 😊 and my best was 32km per liter solo. Best with a pillion and luggage is 28km per liter. Worst was 22km per liter fully loaded, 2-up against a strong wind. I just love this bike.

I have both models and I find it difficult to decide in favour of just the one. The simple handling Honda NC with the high-torque engine and the practical helmet compartment. Good, a little less power when overtaking. Very economical in consumption. The thoughts ? Decelerating riding and the thought that you really need more to ride a motorbike. Then the Honda CRF 1100 DCT from 2020 good chassis, the engine with some tractor character, enough power for everything with some weaknesses in the lower speed range not as strong as the Honda NC. I am still drawn to the Honda NC, perhaps out of habit and the great practical benefits. Besides this AT incredible handling and more power.but too much electronic gimmickry. Where is my way going ? feel like vohannes 🙃😀 I love to ride through German towns at 30 km without jerking on the NC that doesn't work so well with the AT CRF 1100 DCT
@BikingChap
@BikingChap 17 күн бұрын
I get it. Most twins these days are fussy low down, probably down to emission limits and the NC, driving effortlessly from idle, does stand out as different. It's almost like an old school twin, a Guzzi almost. There's nothing else quite like it and good though the AT engine is, it just doesn't feel simply like a bigger NC.

An interesting comparison. I currently run a CB500X and a 650 V Strom but I'm thinking I might replace them both with an NC750X DCT. I like the storage and DCT option of the NC. I'm guessing Honda will upgrade the front suspension and give the NC twin discs (+TFT dash?) at some stage soon...they seem obvious improvements. Maybe I'll wait a little while?
@BikingChap
@BikingChap 22 күн бұрын
The NC engine is very different from the CB or Vstrom so make sure you get a test ride to see if it suits you. I think many NC owners would love to see an upgrade to the brakes, suspension and dash but I get the feeling Honda have stopped any more meaningful updates to the bike now, which is a great shame if true.

Hi, I did a quick comparison of the NC and Transalp here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9t4ZsWg0c_OloU.html It's very different from the NC with loads more power but stacked relatively high up in the rev range. A bit more, light, off road potential but I'd rather have a smaller front wheel (and tubeless rims) for road only use. Brakes and suspension are far better on the Transalp but there again it's a big step up in price, at least in the UK.

@BikingChap

Hi, that's right this type of is just a straight through muffler with a removable baffle that tones down the noise when fitted. No problems when riding as the cat is still fitted at the front of the existing part of the exhaust, so no fuelling problems, no need for any ignition changes and no noticeable change in power. You only tend to run in to issues when you remove the cat at the front of the exhaust, noise, altered power characteristics, increased fuel consumption etc. Hope this helps.

Why don't more manufacturers use the frunk idea with fuel tank under the seat? It makes so much sense, i assume the low engine makes it easier. If i recall correctly BMW Scarver 650 from the 90s was one of the few.
@BikingChap
@BikingChap Ай бұрын
It's a really good point. I think you're right, the low slung engine is a big help, 4 cylinder bikes with straight intakes and big airboxes rob a lot of the space where a frunk might be. Secondly, even with the low slung engine, you also have to find somewhere to put the tank. The NC gets by by being very economical which helps get good range out of a pretty small tank. Good review and agree with your points. I have a 2021 but it is basically the same as the 2024. After 6000km, the sticking fuel cover seems to have resolved itself but I definitely experienced it when the scoot was new. I installed a taller Puig screen and a Shad 33l topcase on mine. My only complaint is that the battery on the remote fobs seem to need to be replaced every 4 - 6 months. Could be some interference with the Honda MapIT tracker that came with mine here in Spain. Brilliant tracker and app though. Not sure why they don't sell it in other countries. After 6000 km, I can hit 110kph indicated but normally drive at 90 - 95 on dual carriageways. Otherwise it is a faultless urban bike and offers great value for the money.

Ah, thank you! I forgot to mention the fob battery, I had heard about it. Odd isn’t it? Good question! The Orange can sits somewhere between a wax coating like 'Waxoyl' and a traditional product like ACF50 that leaves an oily film. The Clear Coat I tested is significantly thinner and less effective. That said there is a new Mark 2 Clear Coat out now and I'll be testing that shortly. In answer to your question I'd happily use the orange can on a new bike but perhaps try to avoid using it for a while after applying it to minimise the muck that will stick in the coating.

@@BikingChap I agree again. I went out today after reading about keeping the revs up on the XL750, and took various back road blacktops, keeping it above 4K rpm, and up to 5.5 - 6.5K, and had a LOT of fun really winding it out in 3rd and 4th gears! I realized I have been riding like an old man, and I am. I'll bet this bike, like my AT, like to keep the revs up. I've also been experimenting with turning the throttle down to 2 bars, EB at 2 or 3, and TC on a bit as well, like the Gravel Mode, and it's great on level gravel roads, way better then I'd previously thought. But when a steep and rutted dirt/gravel hill came up at the end, I did stop and turn off TC. Loving this thing more every day.

@PeterVred that's great to hear, I came to the conclusion that there's enough grunt there if you're not in the mood but wind it out and it really flies and sounds so good. Glad you like it too!

Did you travel in drive or an s mode? Mine seems to get about 80mpg two up at the posted speed limits although it does have a booster plug which i assume may make it use more fuel.

Hi, this was almost exclusively in DRIVE mode. 80mpg is really good, I'd say, two up at the legal limit, it obviously likes that booster plug! :)

I traded a 2018 manual model for a 2024 DCT model a month ago. In everyday mixed riding they get almost identical MPG figures, 65 MPG US. I could squeeze around 82 from the manual, and so far 79 mpg from the DCT with my rider mode, and forcing the DCT into 6th a little earlier than it is programed for. These are fantastic motorcycles, but just like in your automobile fuel economy is greatly influenced by how you operate it.

I couldn't agree more, I was amazed at how much difference it made just riding really conservatively. How do you find the '24 compares to the '18 as a matter of interest?

@BikingChap As a background, I had 33,000 trouble free miles on the 2018 and I performed all the maintenance myself, including valve adjustments. The 3rd generation NC is lower, shorter, and a little more powerful. The 24 fits me better, but I did move the bars back and up about 200mm. The 24 has better suspension, and rides more sporty, vs dirt bike like. I find the saddle more comfortable on the 24. When I stand on the 24 I feel the geometry changes more than when in the saddle of the 18. The j head lamp on the 18 was superior to the 24! The 24 pierces far down the road, but lacks the side illumination of the 18. I commute in the very early dark hours in deer country, so I installed auxiliary lighting to see the road sides better. I'm very happy to have spent the money on the new bike and have no buyers remorse, except for having to start farkling all over!

@scottsellers9039 thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! I think I might need to try the '24, sounds like they've really improved it.
