Can work on white belt level. Good grappler will not let you do this. The top guy in this movie has all of his weight on the knees on the mat so the cross face is very light. Blue belt and above would get on his toes and make you roll to other side exposing your back

thanks for the video, I always pull them back into truck from turtle rather than rolling and when trying to show someone the roll the other day, I'd forgotten that I need to lace the left leg through! embarrassing as I did my first 5 years of bjj at 10P but left 3 or 4 years ago. Have a hot tip for the final step if you're interested - when taking the back from the truck, grab the opponent's right shoulder with your right hand (reach through the space between their right arm and their torso if possible), it maintains diagonal control so they can't keep turning all the way out, and allows you to pull yourself up towards the back.

We always enjoy tips. We constantly try to remind students and watchers of the technique…we teach A way, not THE way. We focus on building the basics and encourage them to build their own style while following fundamental concepts of grappling

Nothing if you can’t reach the far leg/hip with the arm you dropped behind him. Remember, this is a late option, hail mary escape that ideally removes the choking mechanics in time to escape. There will always be a point of no return

Legit defense. I instinctively started using this a few years ago. Yes you basically give up the back and yes they can try to switch the grips to a modified Ezequiel, but it gives you a chance particularly if your partner is 1. good at the kata gatame strangle or 2. a bit bigger so the flashier escapes / flip outs are not likely to work. Most importantly, it doesn't take a whole lot of strength or explosiveness to achieve. This is a move that regular folks can put to work immediately.

what is it exactly that make you tap? Can't breathe? Can't you turn your head to the side?
@cflippin12
@cflippin12 Ай бұрын
Sometimes it’s the smother, sometimes it’s the pressure. Personally I try to put my breast plate right on their nose, that is usually enough to get the tap. Keeping hands on the side of the head will help keep them from turning their head

Go watch Brian Ortega Yair Rodriguez 2 this isn’t a valid defense for the head and arm.
@cflippin12
@cflippin12 Ай бұрын
I suggest you watch Yair vs Ortega 2 again. Yair only tries to “answer the phone” and never goes thumb down. There’s always a point of no return with every submission. I explain this in the video
@ShawnPaul4
@ShawnPaul4 Ай бұрын
@@cflippin12 Yair turned away and Brian switched his grip and tapped him yes if you just let the guy turn he’ll get out but anyone good will switch there grip
@cflippin12
@cflippin12 Ай бұрын
@@ShawnPaul4 so you agree, the defense worked, forcing Ortega to switch the grip…causing you to survive longer if you were able to defend. Of course you’ll have to fight a new attack, that’s grappling. No skilled grappler stops attacking after the first defense. Again, this is an option to fight out of a submission to hopefully give you more time to defend. There will always be a point of no return and you should never plan on the defense stopping all attacks.

@@cflippin12 I wouldn’t say I agree it’s still a head and arm choke with a modified grip turning away didn’t help him escape if anything it put him in a worse position than a standard head and arm
@adamstannard7934
@adamstannard7934 Ай бұрын
Ofcourse its a valid defence even if it affords you 3 more seconds to move and then try to escape the back take and hand fight. Not all valid defence completely nullify a sub. Your in hot water with a deep head and arm anyway might as well do what you can to improve your situation in my opinion 🤷🏼‍♂️
