Nice adventure. But pls be carefull. If your fin is gone, you have some big issues and no one will know. Also i can advise to put the harnesslines al lot closer together, that makes you more flexibel especially is that chop.
@windsurfingterschellingfra1312Ай бұрын
Thanks for the tip ! About the harness lines wide out I hear more often that remark. I have to try them out someway closer to each other. I survived 44 years of crashes/catapults/broken masts/fins/ripped sails/etc in windsurfing and know how to deal with that kind of problems (in locations with strong tidal currents !) I always sail with some additional lines , so I can tie down things for emergency repair and sail/drift down to the island. In this case, the starting flood tide would have set me towards my starting point, harness as sea anchor: no problem to get to shore again . In the very worst scenario, I can try to get attention of one of the many vessels on the water. But as mentioned before : self-support is best Regards, Frank Wuis.

Correction: This trip was just after high tide: the ebb current was running for about 2 hrs, that means wind & current in some parts of the fairway straight against of each other.

Nasty 'touchdown' at 03.10. As I surf on Zfins, I hate to damage them and never go too shallow. Oh well, awesome footage, thanks for that.

Last winter in our "Speedlagoon" I broke a Z-SLM fin at the end of a "shitty week": Ripped a Evo12, Lossed a GoPro11, Broke an XF-boom . But didn't break my Neck ! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jNSTptmlrM3IiJ8.html On Waddenzee with 2 meters difference between High and Low Tide, and shallows/banks/shoals that submerge during flood and can vary in height in a few days, there will always be a risk. You have to "read" the sea &waves: a spot with small breaking waves ==> shallow, etc. Local knowledge is important. In the video You can see(after the crash) in a few steps, the seabottom goes up/down almost a meter: that's usual at places were 2+ knots of tidal current runs 4 times a day up and down The day before I passed over that same(drying) shoal with higher tide without touching (discoloured water and breaking waves) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sM6ap5WSqrbPZKs.html Live is about taking risks: afterwards You now if Your judgement was O.K. or has to be adapted for the next time 😒 With Chess you probably will have less blessure than with Windsurfing. . . ik geef toch geen noodsignalen ?) Ik heb dan wel altijd een reserve diabolo "ready for use " bij me en extra trapeze-lijn. (de tijd van 20km zonder trapeze is voorbij 🙂. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5mnYMqA18i6pHk.htmlfeature=shared Groeten Frank Wuis

Thank you for answer. Today I was at Brouwersdam, it was a perfect day. I saw by the kite vlogs of "Kevin Langeree" that he and his crew and for example "Pippa van Iersel" use an orange mouth surrounding the gopro. Directly for the teeth. It must be very soft. But I don't find this solution in the net. Only with an mechanic "Gelenk" sorry don't know the english word for this. This is perhaps another possibilty.

@windsurfingterschellingfra1312Ай бұрын
Unfortunately the GoPro foot is fixed on the helmet. No further adjustment, only tilting up/down. The recording is with Lens in Superview mode (a wide angle of sight). There is even one option for wider view (Hyperview) but then the sides of the screen are deforming, special with a camera that is moving wildly (although Stabilization of GoPro is set on Hypeersmooth/Autoboost. A picture with TAIL of Board & HORIZON in view is my preverance. Maybe a second foot more forward on the helmet will tackle the visibility of the helmet. I'm really wild about the sharpness of the recordings (4K) specially when playing on a big flatscreen. As said with the camera on the right location (close to the eyes) the view is as I see it when surfing. regards, Frank Wuis

Wind en getij stroom tegen elkaar in geeft extra golven. In de (diepere) vaargeulen staat meer stroom(tot 3kn) dan op de ondiepere vlakten van de Waddenzee en daar zie je dan ook woeliger water . Groeten Frank Wuis

Learning by doing ! Improving skill&technics. However no other speedies around to learn from. I wondered: on 85 wide with 9.6m2, 3 a 4Bft wind, topped 57km/h. With 75 wide 6.6m2, 5 a 6Bft topped 73km/h. With 49 wide 5.1m2 7 a 8 Bft topped 79km/h. With a much faster windspeed only a "relative" few more km/h boardspeed. Is it the drag of the fin that makes a big difference ?

It is a fantastic spot with westerly wind, and northwesterly wind. Only to reach by car in wintertime (with a local (limited available) license) . Or a 6km walk with your gear (whole year possible ! ! ! ) Yesterday I noticed that the westerly end of the laguna has partly been filled up with sand by last storm surge. So looks like our Speedlagune will not last for long. Brendan: Deep respect for Your achievements this year ! Bon Change !

@windsurfingterschellingfra13127 ай бұрын
Yesterday with NNW -ly wind, was just possible , but no long reach to sail. It became to deep downwind. I had first to walk some distance upwind before I could start sailing upwind back to the start (with JP54/ EVO2 6.2 and Z-SLM 28cm). Next time a slightly bigger fin for the upwind performance? Due West, is the best ! The storm of 22-23 Nov. has brought a movement of sand into the lagoon. (Speedbump) Full throttle over it . . . ouch ! We have to check out with tide level is needed to sail safe over it. Dynamics of nature !

@windsurfingterschellingfra13128 ай бұрын
First try out on rough open water (Waddenzee). After a brought reach, I need to sail upwind again. Without enough fin , it will be a loooooong walk home. (I saw an interview on Windsurfing TV with Vincent Valkenaers, who sailed the JP54 with 6.6m2 and symetrical 29cm fin ! ) Because of rough water and tidal stream, upwind capabilities are important too at Terschelling. A contradiction for a speedboard offcourse . . .

Nice speed! Do you like the JP Slalom Pro 85 + the 9.6m sail for the highest possible speed for light wind planing e.g. 10-15 knots?
@windsurfingterschellingfra131210 ай бұрын
Hi Dan, The JP 85 is my lightwind (speed)slalom board for fun/ freerace surfing. I'm sorting out which fins to use etc. Till now I sailed her with Hurricane SRD 42 and 7.8m2 EVO, SRD 44 and SR7 45 with EVO 8.6m2 and mentioned SR7 47 with 9.6m2( stronger winds the 44-45cm) for lighter conditions I want to try a Z fins SL 49. (For bigger sails??? EVO3 12m2 a Sonntag Sl-P 53 ???? Just to try out 🙂) Normally that circumstances I use Mistral Equipe2 or RS:X.
