The remake is absolute mince. Avoid. The Dead Zone is highly recommended, and the 79 Salem's Lot is essential and great.

what the book makes more clear the pet sematary calls people to it. it's like you can't help passing the evil need to go up there on. it almost posesses you to do that.

@43:22 _I was a bit impressed at how new it felt._ I saw this movie in Iraq 4 months after it was made, i.e. Autumn1982. I loved it thoroughly & didn't care the critics roasted it to oblivion. I even bought a VHS copy of it in xmas same year and continued showing it to all my friends & relatives They called me a freak for loving such an ugly film. The Thing grew gradually to become a cult film in the early 1990s & then the fame exploded that it became a classic. In short it is satisfying to be validated over 40+ years.

Stella you have to understand that the "person" who died "their soul" has passed on .. what's inside is SOMETHING EVIL... even though they're wearing the person that DIED....That person is gone...

@29:27 _Are you okay? The "Thing" can only *immitate biological matter* & never inanimate objects such as a prosthetic limb, tooth retorative filling or a glass eye. *Norris* (the geologist) has a *prosthetic heart-valve* which obviously isn't cloned when the thing attacked him. Therefor his thing-clone constantly got *heart attacks.* The fact that the thing only immitates "biomatter" gives us furthermore a *clue* as to who might be a copy or not, like for instance *Child's earring* later in the movie.

@41:13 _The theory of only one of them was the ting & it had to do with whose breath you can see. You can only see McCready's breaath._ Well, there can be reasons why a certain person has no visible breath in the 1 second he apears on camera. On the other side, as I hinted to in the above comment, Childs' ear-ring can be seen in the end. The thing can't replicate inanimate objects, but who says the ting didn't notice the ring, took it, and hung it on it's ear lobe.

Has anyone ever theorized that the original crew of the flying saucer wasn't "the thing". That the crew of the saucer became infected themselves and thats why they crashed in the first place?

It's a good movie, 80s movies are always better. The effects are actually good, and I prefer them to modern efforts. The second one is fun also, and worth watching.

When your neighbor tells you 'sometimes dead is better' and a dead patient of yours tells you 'the ground is sour', then those words should sink into your mind and soul as fair and helpful warnings. But having placed your daughter's cat and your recently deceased toddler son into the soil of a sacred Native American burial ground, though.... That particular part of The Lord's Prayer, 'lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil' is COMPLETELY out of the window!!!!!

As sad as the movie is, the book is absolutely soul crushing. It was technically a very good horror novel but I'd never read it again. The grief and despair the characters suffer through is just too much. 😢💔

I hope you watched the credit scenes, they show the actual people the actors portray, and it’s amazing how spot on they are. And the “counterintelligence expert” is just as weird and clueless as in the film.

Please watch the 2011 movie. It's actually not as bad as people say. It's a prequel to this movie, and the directors did a pretty spot on telling of how the events unfolded at the other camp. It's not a perfect movie, but it's still pretty damn good. I'm sure you've heard it has bad CGI, which is true, but it's not at the fault of the team behind the movie. Screen testers and studio suits forced them to change from the practical effects to CGI, which was really sad. They actually did build out a lot of the practical effects for the movie, you can find test footage/ behind the scenes of the work in various videos online, they looked amazing, and they weren't even finished. I feel if the studio didn't interfere The 2011 version would be just as respected as the original.

this was remade recently and ill say the 80's fx hold up and just look so much better than the new shiny cgi. but dont worry, its a gen thing, my 18 year old niece liked the 2015 poltergeist better than the 1982 original ver. i had to disown her. ;-) i still love her but shes not invited to family functions anymore. lol

This is my favorite type of horror. The type of horror where the supernatural element is introduced to serve the emotional core of the story. An emotional core that is universally relatable: dealing with the trauma and grief of losing a loved one, and the despicable things a human would do in the misguided hope of getting that happiness back. Slasher horror, body horror and other types in the horror genre are all cool and serve their own purpose for entertainment. But I love a horror with a good story and meaningful themes behind it.

Jud's dog or Church - or any animal - has been NEVER an evil creatures, just a little bit "different" after re-born: calm, slow, moving like a drunk. Ok, except the bull :D In the movies this is a misstatement because of the creepiest area :) But humans were possessed by wendigo (this is a demon).

I saw this in theatres when it first came out and, at the time, little demonic possessed kids were TERRIFYING thoughts to me... so it got to me. I've had several friends who're quite traumatized by this film (it was the scariest sh*t they'd ever seen up to that point) ... it wasn't so much SCARY as disturbing to me. (But I'd been reading Stephen King books since I was a pre-teen... so in '89, I had just graduated high school and Stephen King had already done as much damage to my brain/psyche as he was gonna do **LOL**) Fred Gwynn had been away from the public eye for years prior to this appearance (we grew up seeing him as Herman Munster on re-runs of THE MUNSTERS - so we were used to seeing him as a goofy comedic actor... prior to that, I think we saw him for all of 2 minutes at the end of Michael J Fox's film THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS) ... So it was great seeing him in a larger role in this film. From what I hear ... none of the sequels are worth your time... but I haven't personally seen any of them. The trailer for the recent remake looked creepy as all hell.... but it got horrid reviews, so I didn't see that one either. Something more "fun" and light-hearted ... but in the same general horror-esq genre ... MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK ... WARM BODIES ... LOVE AT FIRST BITE ... ONCE BITTEN ... or TUCKER AND DALE VERSUS EVIL

Another nice reaction guys. I was working in a video shop when this first dropped, from memory it didn't get a cinema release, in Australia at least, It was a popular horror video for hire right from the get go and I think it slowly gained cult classic stasis over the years for how effective it is. It's fondly remembered by horror enthusiast's Glad you guys caught it. It seemed to weave it's voodoo on you both, lol. looking at it again now it strikes me as shareing many themes with the short story "The Monkey's Paw" by English author W. W. Jacobs. It first appeared in Harper's Monthly in 1902. Hayley, the actor who played Jud is it Fred Gwen? Is probably best known as Herman Munster in the popular B&W TV comedy show "THE MUNSTERS" a Adams family rip off from back in the day. Thanks guys, see ya!

This movie overcomes budget and special effects limitations by setting the Creeds up as a wholesome and loveable family. First the movie makes you like them, then it destroys them. I think Judd has a New England accent, rather than a mid-Atlantic one.
