I'll bet ya the motor ended up there after an estate was sold and the motor was a no sale. 71 is a 900, last year and a bunch of first for the XL models. New clutch, new ignition, and the parts associated with them. Good luck and I like your idea for the K model look. Lots of good info for you over at face book Ironhead Sportster Garage

Good question- @modernpizza it’s pretty hard to tell, but I’m leaning towards both fire and time we’re the culprits for the cylinder fragging.

Still looking- the bolt pattern is 5 x 4.5, it has ford or mopar steelies on it now, but I’m looking for some 17 - 4s from a 20s, 30s, 40s truck.

The 45 doesn’t have any pushrods, not a single one. The lifter just pushes the bottom of the valve… I just can’t break myself from using the big twin names for things.

Have you considered a rupp mini bike, step-through moped or Vincent black shadow? We have no rules against helping- actually that was the inspiration, we were hoping that someone else would build our bikes for us. Nico needs help tightening his spark plugs.

What kind of gas mileage are you expecting from this?

@nicomega7613 in track mode with traction control turned off I am expecting to get approximately 20 mpg, although this will likely be affected by tire choice, and cup holder drag. … really I’m just hoping to go 60 miles without breaking a connecting rod.
